I took my cab to PICKFORD LANE TAXI'S in bexleyheath kent today, they removed the door panel, to see what the problem was with the locking.

They said the solenoid for the central locking had packed up, they are ordering one for me and will be fitting it tomorrow.

Thank you

Woody it maybe advisable to ask the gararge to give the cab the once over, and if they find anything that may need doing to make a list for you with the estimated costs, this may put your mind at rest

Woody that doesn't explain why it opened while you were driving and also doesn't explain why it won't lock manually. There must be something else as well (they may have fixed it when they had the panel off).

One of my rear doors didn't open via the central locking for about 18 months, then all of a sudden it worked.

And it still work now for the smelly driver who own it 2 years down the line.

Two character flaws for the price of one, still think it should be in the http://www.taxi-driver.co.uk/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=9 bit though.

CC, Woody is not a cabby, and he posted the question in the right bit,
If you dont have anything constructive to post get back under your shell.

Woody, CC is like getting something stuck on your shoe, no matter how you try to get ride of it the smell still lingers, so just ignore his comments and the rest of us will try to answer your questions as best we can

Skippy, thank you, should have my cab back sometime today, hopefully.
I have asked them to give it a check over, to see if there are any other problems that might need sorting out, so fingers crossed, it's ok.

Thank you very much for your help.

no soleniod on the metro its an electric actuator.different altogether.
water can get in and bugger up the small springs and the copper contacts.
you can repair them with a little patience and a couple of new springs.
new ones i believe are 90 odd quid granada i think.
also the door rods can get bent or even snap £5 from most dealers.
bit of a techniqe to doing these.lol
motion lock is a completly independent system (just an elctric catch that pops up to stop the actuation of the rod assembly).

hope this helps if youre into fixing it yourself.

ps if youre door opened check youre door hinges.
they often go on metros.
try lifting the door see if theres any movement at the hinges.
if theres significant movement then thats probably why youre door poped.
easy repair if the screws come out ok.lol
if not there are some tricks for tightening up the pins let me know.
however if the door pillars are gone(more common) youre into a new ballpark(did the front door of mine involves cutting a large hole in the fiberglass to access the pillar removing and replacing it).

ALI T , thank you for your reply, i got my cab back yesterday. it was a white box thing, with components and springs etc, as you said water had got in to
it and corroded it.

When they put the new one in, they have put plastic over it to stop the water
getting in. the cost for the part was £59 and £30 labour. the rod that you mentioned, had also come off, they reconnected this. they said the door handle, on the outside needs replacing, as something has broken on that.

they did not have a door handle in stock, but i am going to take it back to them, in a couple of weeks, for a service and cam belt change, just in case.

They gave it a quick check over, did not find anything major, but said they would give it a better look over when i take it in for a service.

Thank you very much for your help and advice
