Right...I'm now fully kitted out to accept card payments as discussed above.

The test transaction worked OK. I'm very impressed with the card imprinter; It's a lot smaller than I expected so stowing it in the car will be easier than anticipated.

Just returning to the surcharge legalities:

HC are permitted to agree a fare higher than the meter for work terminating outside the licensed area...Right or wrong?

I'm inclined to want a small surcharge, where possible, if I'm waiting ten days for my money....Any opinions?

Fares outside your area are subject to negotiation....I think I recently asked JD about this and he was very helpful.

I have been using Taxipay for over a year now. They send you through a credit card imprinter, also slips to take note of card & signature. I have it on 2 mobiles SE w880i and nokia 6300 and its worked really well. The reason for the imprinter is for fraud and if you have a copy of the card your ok. The only problems I have had is when there servers went down, but just keep you customers details and last 3 digits of card and process it later. You get 3.5% they take 6.5% its well worth it.

the surcharge is for only paying on card not for the fare. so as long as you accept cash at the meter rate or below. the surchage can be what you want. unless you stop taking cash and only accept card
