But if your a Licensed Taxi You can only Rank on an authorised standing or risk getting a ticket.

I and some others regularly stop for a coffee in Old Compton Street, I've never had a ticket, and I'll be asked at least half a dozen times if I'm free.

It's a bit like Cranbourn Street, minus the chaos.

If works quiet why waste Derv, start your own rank.

Careful GBC, didn't a driver get done for touting a year or two ago because of a similar thing ? :?

To tout you have to do just that, as in making the approach.

Wherever you stop in London you're on open display to the public, folks will always approach you. I see no wrong in that, I believe that you are 'found standing' as such and the PCO knows that.

That's a big difference from asking people where they are going in order to secure a fare, picking and chosing work at CX Station, or stopping for a coffee!

if every policeman in the UK was told that a PH taking a flag down, and also a non-local taxi (london cab or other) doing the same is technically uninsured so liable to seizure of the vehicle and crushing i bet the level of interest might rise...

I bet it wouldn't. There would be to much paperwork to complete for the average copper to be bothered with.

I dont know, if your avarage bobby where to go out and get 10 in a row he could spend the rest of his shift in a nice warm office drinking tea or coffee while he did it

Yes but that would mean actually doing some work. It is better to be out and about doing nothing than actually doing the job. Also if your copper is in the station everyone will know where he is and he wouldn't want that would he.
