Oh sorry! From now on no ones getting nothing....... is that better?

Don't be so touchy, I wasn't being critical, I was being observational.

I avoid giving to charity (except the poppy appeal) but a few hours and a drop of fuel wouldnt worry me too much, with cash you never know how much reaches the intended recipients.

As far as I know if you're worried about how much cash gets to the actual charity give to 'dogs for the blind' they apparently give all the cash to the charity

So, giving to charity.

Is it a selfless act, or is it really all about feeling good about oneself?

Is it possible to be charitable without a feeling of smug self satisfaction?

Apparently not.

So does that mean the gerkas are out as well. If it weren't for them there may well have been a different end to wars

Toots, any foriegner that has served in the british armed forces can have my last penny if they want.
They have done thier bit for this country and I don't begrudge them anything.

Not quite true Toots, a while ago (years) senior board members of the charity concerned had interest free mortgage loans because the GDB had too much money. As they paid no interest at all and with inflation the charity still lost money and GDB still had too much. As an aside, they don't "rescue" dogs at all and have an in house breeding programme.

As an ex-Serviceman my money buys a poppy and as a mariner the RNLI get some too. These two do need the money!

OMG I'm shocked. How can a charity have TOO MUCH money  Anyway it was only what I'd heard. I always give to the poppy appeal but I have to be honest I've never donated to the RNLI
