The Liverpool standard?? Hasn't someone told Liverpool Council the funding is running out for these 'free' courses?

That's as maybe but there is always funding available to get unemployed people off the dole. As this indicates 'new drivers' if they are unemployed funding will be provided from that pot

When will the funding finish on these courses & has there been an announcement to this effect?

I'm sure toots mentioned something about funding issues with her lot and as a result she was unable to work for a period of time?

I think there were issues in Sefton as well, according to Mr T

The issue with the funding is not just with the taxis getting funding. Apparently the NVQ's have an amount allocated to them. This allocation has never been fully used in previous years. Over the last few years it has become apparent that the funding has exceeded it's budget. Currently the funding bodies are going through all courses with a fine tooth comb, so to speak, to ensure that the courses meet the criteria required to obtain the funding and trying to claw back funding on this basis.

With regard to Sefton I think the understanding is that the training is not to cost the taxi drivers any money and this was agreed with the LA (or so I'm lead to believe), because there were issues as to whether funding would be available to all drivers this slowed things up a little but as far as I'm aware now these issues have been ressovled.

My not working recently was not entirely due to the funding issue but due in part to my not being entirely happy with the method of 'training' used for drivers and more to the point the content of the actual 'training' courses.

Mentioned in the report that if funding can't be found then the applicant will have to fund the T&G reps homes in Spain.

Talking about Sefton, will their PH drivers have to take the Liverpool Standard? :D

If they did you can bet the T&G would change their cross-border stance. [-(

I find it very difficult to argue against the course that is being provided by unite. after all they have done their homework... the teachers are full-time hackney drivers.... and they have a T X one permanently on site which enables the pupils to be shown properly how to load and unload passengers in wheelchairs..... they're doing what a lot of people have argued for.... experienced taxi drivers teaching new drivers..

As for Sefton when the course was sold to the council they were told it would not cost drivers any money... but in reality.. if you already have a qualification... then you have to pay.... the course in Sefton is seriously being reconsidered....

That won't be a problem seen as most of them are from Liverpool anyway.

I've just done mine and what a waste of dough. £1500 apparently. Just a PC exersise with descrimination legislation thrown in. Should have seen the driving assesors face when he asked what time to call at our house, after telling him about 10 o clock he asked was that to give me time from dropping the kids off at school, he wasn't to happy when he learnt it was more like 10 o clock after tucking them into bed and then I'd show him the delights of Crocky and Norris Green.
