Sorry toots, I meant Employment. Another colloquialism for the DHSS up here is the Social. I would have said that, but you may have thought I was talking about a club.

Ahhh well we use that here too, happy days :D

They tried that round here about 15 years ago, a Taxi company set up a shell company called Connections Travel, they were employing drivers and getting money from the Government for employing them, 9 months later they went bankrupt after getting all the money for employing them.

Well according to the list in PH and Taxi monthly there are already 327 hackneys in our district (9 are Wavs apparently not sure where they all are) for a district with a population of just over 100000 thats 1.5 times as many as Peterborough, 9 times as many as Rutland nearly 4 times as many as South Holland and 8 times as many as Melton and at least one local company whose drivers often spend hours at a time waiting for a job have been advertising for drivers ( because they are so busy they need more !) so any such scheme round here would probably get the local council and a couple of the local firms rubbing their hands together with glee £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

Sooner or later there has to be a realisation that market forces don't work in the taxi trade and that cheaper fares through increased competition = lower safety standards and 100+ hours a week for the drivers

How about including checks on immigration status, Tax registration and benefits registration with badge applications

Apparently they do the same here although I don't know about the interviews with operator companies tho. If there was such an interview it would probably go along the lines of 'here's your set with instructions, bye'

"instructions"?????
