Sounds like the number of runners is definitely on the increase (with the recession?)

My old man hasn't had a runner in all his 25 years on the cars until a month or so ago and he had two in a week. One of his drivers had one on boxing night too. A £50 fare on double rate.

i do believe you can use the loss as a write down against income tax

Wot, you mean that some drivers actually include the fare from a runner in their takings?

its a business loss, you have used fuel etc and can put this down the same way as you put down your normal earnings

to update, investiigation going through the motions once they get cctv evidence from the all night garage

this problem maybe would not have happened if our local Council allowed us to have cctv in vehicle, but yet they do, but the approved cctv they list the cost is to high, when there are much cheaper versions of in car cctv

Indeed, but isn't that what all drivers do anyway? I mean, it's seems unlikely that any will say that they will only claim £9 of their £10 of fuel because one pound of the total related to a runner?

On the other hand, your initial point made it sound like drivers were either including the runner in their takings or not claiming for the related fuel. :-k

I would think that if you went back to them and argued your point from a "Safety issue", then they would be hard pressed to refuse you if it complied with all rules and regs. This nonsense that they stipulate that you have got to have blah blah blah type of CCTV kit would probably be blown out of the water, just so long as whatever you put in complies with their list, and that you could not interfere with it.
