Here in Gateshead, as I think in most areas, HC and PH exist effectively side by side.

Certain people claim there are differances, in fighting and god knows what else but this is just an attempt to quantify their claims of unfairness.

HC drivers, in the main, have at some point driven PH so to claim they hate them has no substance. If anything PH drivers with ambitions to be HC drivers are more likely to show ill feelings toward the HC sector, this is apparent on here and provides evidence that PH drivers are more likely to consider HC drivers as scum than HC drivers are of considering PH drivers to be the same.

Contrast that with the following article about the way Manchester react to any and all private hire vehicles who they think are breaking the law and you will see that not everyone has a good working relationship with the private hire sector. Does anyone have any input as to why we can't all be like Sefton?

Best wishes

JD

JD,

Once again you seem to be stirring Chit.
It is common knowledge in Manchester that every private hire driver and his uncle can ''pirate'' (meaning taking a job that is not pre-booked) in Manchester and nobody bats an eyelid.
Contact the Licensing unit and ask how many drivers have been prosecuted in 2004 and the answer will be no more than a dozen.
PH used to rank up outside the Printworks until Licensing started patrolling in their ''marked'' car.
Now they hide on side-streets and when the clubs close its free for all in Manchester City Centre.
If you ever get lucky to get a job to Wilmslow or any such out of town area you will see that there are lots of PH vehicles from all over racing you there and back and you are the only H/C there.
P/H sit there and only take the ''cream'' jobs and leave all the local work to Hackneys.

Welcome back Cheshire, Happy New Year. I think you have the wrong end of the stick as usual but never mind. I was highlighting the contrast between the good relationship that Sefton Taxi drivers have with their local private hire sector and the contrasting situation here in Manchester. lol

Other than that I haven't said a word. Your contribution is always enlightening and its nice to see you are still alive and kicking lol

Best wishes

JD

Oh by the way I reformatted your post just in case you wondered why it looked so neat and tidy.

Perhaps your view is born of your antipathy towards PH drivers, or at least those who disagree with you. You seem to base much of your view on the basis of ONE PH drivers on here.

As a HC driver I would say that there is generally more antipathy from HC towards PH than vice versa.

Check out your own Cab Trade News, for example. Another is the 'cuckoo in the nest' viewpoint from Dougie Friswell of SCATA. And there's a lot worse said in less formal contexts - I recall one HC driver on a earlier forum saying that all PH drivers should be burn't alive.

On the other hand, in the PH press there isn't the same antipathy as far as I can tell - indeed the NPHA and PHM seems to be the one of the main cheerleaders for the HC trade.

You may be confusing dislike of the system of restricted numbers with dislike of HC drivers generally.

If quotas were proposed for PH, as one MP did a year or two ago, for example, I would oppose them, not because it's regarding PH, but because of the system
