We Be Sober, company that offers services to drinkers, opens Visalia office

One company may be making it easier for you to get home safely after a night out drinking — offering a taxi-like service for you and your car.

We Be Sober, based in Fresno, opened a Visalia office last month. It offers services to drive anyone home who may have a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit. As part of the service, someone also drives the person's car home.

"You aren't leaving your car at the bar where it can be vandalized," said Joseph Taviano, We Be Sober Visalia manager. "It's home with you safe and one less thing to worry about."

A team of two people come out to you and your vehicle. One person drives you and your car while the other follows.

The cost is $30 for anyone needing a ride within the Visalia city limits or $35 anywhere between Visalia and Tulare or Visalia and Exeter.

Taviano said anyone can call We Be Sober on Monday through Saturday directly from a bar to reserve a pick-up or reserve it in advance. The service is open daily until the time bars close, at about 2 a.m.
Sunday pickups have to be reserved in advance.

We Be Sober has three teams available for pickups each day in Visalia.
The owners of the service thought of the idea in an effort to decrease arrests for driving under the influence, Taviano said.

The Central Valley has a higher percentage of DUIs than other areas of the state, he said.

"We encourage people to call if they have any questions or if they want to reserve a ride," he said.

We Be Sober accepts both cash and credit cards.

Didn't they try this kind of thing in this country, but, they used bikes in the boot instead of a 2nd driver?
