The Beeb reckons that the average 11-15 year old gets £6.25 per week.

I give my 12 year old £10, but he saves it all, so gets another £2 each time he goes out, I think I could adopt a Elephant, it will be cheaper.

Dont Give him the £10 up front...Give him it in £2.00 Dollops each time he goes out as Bank Interest rates are less than the rate of Inflation so in order to Maximise the Value of his money he needs to spend it Immediately before it suffers further inflationary depreciation...

Best Invest in Sweets and then get his Friends to do likewise...then if he Trains as a Dentist he can recoup his Investment Ten fold.

Leave it as it is and increase it slightly on every birthday.

The most importamt thing about your son's habit with his pocket money is that HE IS SAVING!!!

To teach a child to do that is truly priceless in this materialistic world of ours!!

Your son clearly has a dream about what to do with his savings; don't destroy or hinder his dream by reducing his pocket money.

I predict your son will be a wealthy man in a decade or two, because by saving he is already planning his future at his young age and that is to be infinitely encouraged.

How many of his peers do that?

I have this deep seated suspicion about the whole savings, pensions and ISA things

when theres one where im not lending HMG or a fat cat insurance company money, where the pension return is guaranteed to exceed what i pay in, where theres no "investments can fall or rise" clause i may stop hoarding gold sov's.....

dad paid into a company scheme for many many years only to get the interest payments deducted from his pension credits, and the savings bonds mum and dad bought to cover funeral costs (£6000 worth) means the loss of any help and thats even after every penny of any and all pensions he gets except £20/week are taken off him now hes in a care home...

i should point out that i have NO problem with the accumulation of cash, its just where you put it and whose mitts are on it that trouble me

under the bed is best

BTW gold is at a new high
