Hi - help!! Can anyone tell me how a taxi rank needs to be marked for it to be legal? Does a cab rank need road markings and a wall sign or what? If road markings are worn away so that they are no longer legible is it still a legal taxi rank? My OAP dad parked on one which was at the end of a row of ordinary parking bays. An adjacent wall sign was obscured by a group of pedestrians and so he thought it was ok. When he realised his mistake he checked for road markings but they had worn off. Council says they can't get paint to stick to the cobbles. Is it worth going to court to appeal against the Fixed Penalty Notice?

I would take photos first of all.

If your council control parking then you can appeal through the 'Parking Adjudicator', and in your case you could well win.

I would have a word, or read, with this mob. http://www.parkingticket.co.uk/

It probably depends how worn they were and more generally how obvious it was that it was a rank.

After all, road markings are rarely in pristine condition, but it's nevertheless usually obvious what they are, but of course some may get so worn as to be unrecognisable.
