Well not being one to log on or listen to the news before I drive south down the A1(M), you can imagine my surprise when London cab after London cab kept passing me heading North (and i'm 50 miles away from London)
It was'nt long before I picked up BBC London and the full horror unravelled over the speakers.

I nearly turned tail, visualising the gridlock and ensueing chaos around London, but then inspiration in the form of Bob Oddy's (LTDA) dulcide tones rang out calling for drivers to come in and work to answer some of the huge demand that was currently there.

So I did, and what a day its been, a real 'up yours Al Queda' spirit from all, it was busy, and the roads were very,very busy, but I, and most other cabbies, organised the passengers where possible, in groups of 5 heading in similar destinations, and to be honest by about 9pm the ques had all but cleared and 90% of people had been taken home, leaving little for the Night drivers that were planning to work tonight.

Who knows what effect todays events will have on the trade and London in general? we can but hope life gets back to normal, but remembering 9/11 and the slump that followed, i'm not holding my breath.

Ken Livingstone impressed me, and most Londoners today, and thats not something he does very often.

So where were you picking people up GBC - according to the news there were no taxis in central London at all.

All our thoughts are with our colleagues in London at this terribly sad time. I'm sure many taxi drivers will have friends / family members caught up in this tragic series of events.

Please take some comfort from the fact that everyone's thoughts are with you.

In the Morning / Lunchtime period the information may well have been correct.

All the buses stopped.
All of the underground network stopped.
All of the main line terminus closed.

So you might say there was a period of significant unmet demand!

Personaly I spent about 3 hours, from about 2'ish, going from Kentish Town/ Camden Town, to destinations in North London around the route of the Northern Line.

The journey times were about 30% longer but the roads coped.

Considering 3 out of the 4 incidents were underground, i'm not sure why every bus throughout London stopped?

It must be part of a greater plan in the event of a bomb going of.

Yes, thank you Fairway, rest assured there was more Taxi's than normal out yesterday afternoon, including Londoncabbie who usualy does'nt see the light of day

Yes, good luck to GBC and all Londoners, hopefully things will get back to normal fairly quickly and there will be no repeat of yesterday.

From the purely taxiing point of view, no doubt you will suffer because of the impact on tourism, particularly from the American perspective, but hopefully things will get back to normal before too long.

i have lived in Brighton all my life but i have never seen so many foreign students than i saw today here.
there must have been thousdands.
and i think its because they didnt go to London.
thing is though thousands of people and not one f***ing job out of them.
