Redundancy doesn't count for the over 65's.

I don't think you are right there Roy.

You could simply give him 2 weeks notice and then find somebody else, unless you've signed a contract stating otherwise.

Our contract with the drivers is 4 weeks notice by us. But you have to have a legal reason for terminating someones employment. You can't just sack someone. He has been employed by us for 6 1/2 years and has rights. We also can't make him redundant because it has to be the job that has ended before you can do that.

Oh well look on the bright side it's nearly the end of the contract but personally I'd still tell him he's been rumbled and pay him accordingly

OK, so it seems the law has changed since I last had dealings with this matter, that was when you HAD to retire at 65!

Well, an interesting week on this one. First day back after the Easter holidays and all roadworks and other problems on the route have gone. The wife accidentally gave the driver a different car. Well the same type of car but not the one he usually drives. Low and behold the job was completed in just under 1 1/2 hours, which is the time I said it could be done in. In the afternoon it was in his usual car and it took 1 3/4 hours and it has taken 1 3/4 hours for the rest of the week so far. By 1 3/4 hours I mean that it has taken just over 1 1/2 hours by just a couple of minutes and then rounded up.
What is the difference between the 2 cars I hear you ask? Well go on then ask!!! Ok the difference is in the speedo. They read slightly differently. On Monday morning he got up to 47 MPH on the tracker but by the afternoon he was only getting up to 43 MPH.
We had him in the office this morning and the long and short of it is that HE suggested that we only pay him the 1 1/2 hours per journey that we say the job should take. Happy days.
Mind you we have a car for spares that we have taken the speedo out and changed it this morning, lets see what speed he gets up to now.
