I am sure that I have mentioned before how one of the firms here has reported drivers for benefit fraud or tax evasion. This happens when a driver leaves to work for another company. At the moment they only have 5 drivers left and one of them left yesterday and guess what, they have told him that they are going to hand his pay in records to the benefits people today as far as I am aware, he doesn't even claim any benefits. The driver left because the company handed back the school contract he was working on and because one of the owners has been making jokes about people with cerebral palsy. (the driver has a relative with this condition.) Another of their drivers said he was leaving a few weeks ago and they have told him the same thing so he didn't leave. How on earth they expect to recruit new drivers is beyond me. Apart from the % that the drivers pay in and the fuel they put in the cars, They also have to pay £4.20 per shift for insurance. That doesn't sound to bad until you have an accident and then you find out that the company only has 3rd party insurance and the £4.20 per shift is for public liability cover only. so drivers are paying around £30 per week or £1500 per year for public liability insurance!!! FFS how much does public liability insurance cost? We have £5,000,000 cover included in our car insurance premiums and we pay around £700 extra per year to have this topped up to £10,000,000 and for employers liability insurance.
I have a feeling that this company's days are numbered
I just hope the FIRM's accounts will stand scrutiny if the ex-employee does the obvious and suggests to HMRC that THEY (the firm) might be worth a look, are we certain that ALL the "pay in" slips make it to the accounts and none of that lovely cash slips into the bosses back pocket? There may be a "pay in" slip, but does the driver ever get a receipt for his/her rent?
Its all bluff and double bluff
