We have a rank that has been closed and dug up due to water pipe repairs. The work has been planned for months. However no one seems interested that the rank is closed and there is nowhere for taxis to wait.
Question, is there any legal responsibility for us to be given a temporary rank and if so whose responsibility is it. Our council say it is highways at County Hall and highways say it is the contractor and the contractor is saying that they don't have to sort anything out.

I'm sure a temp rank needs approval of some kind, too time consuming for some LAs

The best of it is that we were told that it had all been done and a temporary rank for 5 cars had been approved and they were waiting for the lorry with the signs to arrive, That was the middle of last week and now, nothing, zilch, nada!!!

The council don't have to provide a rank full stop.

They should have put up a temporary rank.

Not rocket science, and the rules allow officials to do so.

They have to pay for a RTO to do that.

I have just been told that we now have a temporary rank in the town centre. The original rank was for 5 cars and was used all day to pick up shoppers. The temporary rank is for 1 car and is only in operation from 23.00 to 05.00. You couldn't make it up. At the moment there is a workmans car parked in the spot with a chap inside, FAST ASLEEP!!!
