Hey Guys,

My first post, so please be gentle :) .

Im currently looking into the possibility of getting into the trade and just wanted to ask your reasons for getting a particular license type i.e Hackney or PH.

I will be interested in the reasoning that you had behind your decisions.

Ben

Too many variables to answer that.

Is your council restricted? Does your council insist on wheelchair accessible hackneys?

Do PH have to do a brief?

I live very close to 3 different councils. One does offer dual license's but I dont believe the others do. I havent decided upon which to target as yet.

I dont believe any of my 3 options are restricted. Although the one that has the largest town seems to suggest quality so its quite likely that this one may want wheelchair access. I need to investigate further. Much larger initial start up costs if this is the case Im sure.
The other two councils are a bit more rural.

What is a brief? Is this like an area knowledge test?

Yes.

I suggest you license a taxi in one of the unrestricted areas and see how it goes.

Ok thanks, some further investigation needed :) .

I can see benefits for going either route but ultimetely, it does boil down to three things for me. Start up costs, flexibility (as in hours I can work - dipping in and out), and how much work that is available.
