How much did you end up paying for your insurance?

You asked for advice and it's been given here in bucket loads from people that don't care who you work for. As it happens you're going to be working for Delta which is bigger than most but much the same in many ways. There are only so many jobs you can do in an hour allowing for driving from A to B for pick ups. If you're busy and your jobs are drop ons then you could perhaps do 5 RTFCs in an hour average take on these £3.50, you could do some small jobs that are bigger than RTFCs but the average take on those is £4/£4.50 or you could perhaps squeeze in 3 £6 jobs. On average you should hope for between £15/£20 per hour on a steady night and perhaps anything up to £30 per hour when it's busy but it won't be busy all night. It's much the same wherever you work, smaller companies have less staff to take work but then they have less drivers that need the work. Delta have a lot of staff but they need a lot of staff they have a lot of drivers. I have 30 drivers making anything from £250 to £325 for 15 hours per week, they work elsewhere the rest of the time. I have drivers that earn up to £900 doing airport work but only 2 of them and some weeks it's only £400 but again they work with other companies too. All I'm saying is don't dedicate all your time to one operator, work smart not long hours and don't forget to get your operators license as Sefton has one of if not the cheapest operator license in the country. If you get your ops license you can advertise for work legit and build it up and then just work for others when you have down time. There are so many options out there it's frustrating to read, when somebody is new to the trade, all the spin the company has been weaving for years.

hello was just enjoying this thread when i read your post, u mentioned work with more than one operator, i just passed my taxi theory and waiting on licence, just wanted to confirm is it LA rule which allow u to work for one or more depots?
in my council they said you only allowed to work with one operator, or u can carry out work with board of education without operator

All the drivers that cover my work cover work for other operators, they are all self employed and I'm of the opinion that if somebody wishes to restrict that then they should employ you and pay respective wages and benefits. There is nothing in law as far as I'm aware to stop you working for more than one operator within your licence distract.

There is a bit on our drivers application form that asks who you intend to work for. There is also something that states that you have to give the paper part of your drivers badge to the person you are carrying out the work for and that would sugest that you can only work for one at a time. However drivers here take no notice of this.

On ours as well, I always put 'self-employed'.

There is a bit on ours as well that asks who you intend to work for and drivers fill it in accordingly and bring their forms to be signed by the operator of their choice on that day. They don't have to stay with that operator nor inform the council if they move they just ask for the paper part of their badge back and take it to the new operator. If they intend to work for more than one operator then they go ask for another paper part of their badge from the council and they give them one to file with the other operator. Operators are obliged to send a list of drivers to the council on a monthly basis. Not all operators keep the paper part they just photo copy it and file that. If I need to check if a driver is licenced I just go online to check the live feed we have access to.

thanks for your replies,
in my guide to become taxi driver it actually says

A driver cannot be affiliated to more than one taxi operator at any one time. The only
exceptions are when the driver is employed in:
• Wedding transport;
• Funeral transport; and/or
• Education & Library Board contracted home to school transport

so i thought this was kind of UK wide rule but may be not,
got my test date today after 28 days. things are very different here, still dont know which plate type should i go for, hackney or outside citycentre hackney or PH or taxi bus as i will be eligible for any depending on vehicle after i pass my test
