Taxi Driver Online

So I can try and get add my name to a pool of drivers wanting an educational contract come September to take kids to school. Some people I've spoken to said it's well worth it (taxi firm 1,which now has no contracts left), others say it's a waste of time and they have trouble finding enough drivers to take them on (taxi firm 2, wanting a list of names by next week). I'm assuming the difference comes down to how well these school contracts are paid, and thats like the length of a string. also apparently the mileage is sometimes discounted.

How much time / money per day would you think it worth it to lock down your working times by doing education runs?

Five years ago school contracts were viable a reasonable one would Pay £350-500 a week your basic salary

Now our council have there own Buses and keep all the good ones for themselves. And only give the dross out to contractors + They are draconian with prices with a Hack they wont pay any dead mileage This means they want you to travel 10 miles to do a £12 on the Meter job.

Not happening

it is horses for courses. If you don't like what is offered, don't take the job.Never ever put in a cheap price just to get the job. If you do then you only have yourself to blame.

If you're going to do one get an operators license and get paid direct so there's no middleman taking a slice but to do that involves a cost plus a few hoops to jump through, if you do decide to bid for one factor in that you may have to leave the half hour before pickups free as the jobs available may take you away from the school so in addition to the mileage price add one hour a day of average earnings to offset this.

love them me , more i make on my run, the less i have to graft the streets, only a fri (sometimes) & sat night for me now, all week off bar the run in the morn/evening, takes no time at all & my lass is the escort, so all comes in to the house, do it in a minibus so no fuel/upkeep of the vehicle, dunno what i would do without one tbh

had them since 2009, often i feel guilty at what ive charged, and late cancellations still get paid but they are adept at cutting back, so horses for courses....i get paid 14 days fron invoiced, its all framework now if your direct, ours isnt open again till 2019. the wifes a passenger assistant and the lad will be registered too soon.

only bid what you feel is low enough for 10 runs a week.....5 morning, 5 afternoons and forget holidays term time

Only you will know what your outgoings are, and the cost of applying and adhering to whatever requirements the council insist on.

I wouldn't want to be tied down for anything less than £25 an hour. But I'm a greedy so and so.

i think it's different for me. from the posts here, it seems a lot of you are putting in your own bids. where as where I am, because i'm not an independent, it's the taxi firm your pay rank/radio money to that puts in the bid/tender, not the drivers. the drivers only have option to accept or reject what their firm offers them.

but my costs are going to be £260 p/w exc fuel. so I was hoping for a £50 day contract. but maybe that's a pipe dream. would not want to be tied down for £20 per day for 2 runs.
