Working a beautiful city like Edinburgh it's easy, I like the job, it's an easy job if you make it easy, I'm hungry, I like meeting randoms, I like to listen to people as I enjoy conversation, I'll never be lonely or feel isolated or out of touch from the real world, I like to observe real life moving around me, I feel a part of my surroundings, I use money earned more wisely as I appreciate how hard it is sometimes to make a fiver an hour, you ask WHY, I love working on my own

Anyone who works in a service industry ie shops,restaurants, hotels, bin men, bar staff, taxi drivers etc, are treated by many in a contemptuous/ subservient manner. Basically because many want this one upmanship over another person - councils are a prime example of this, who will use the tax payers cheque book to get their own way.

The people/professions that you mention are all PAYE, who work for companies who will negotiate in order to protect shareholders money, or government departments who have a duty to the electorate. To top that, they all have a closer working environment that breeds bonding/camaraderie .........taxi drivers have none of that.

In our case taxi drivers are self employed, by nature many are loose cannons, as such they will not/cannot be told or organised by another, councils take advantage of that.

The Unions are too stupid, and too lazy, to go out to organise and expand their membership, the business is out there waiting for them - they cannot be arsed! Anyone/organisation who cannot be bothered to make the effort - then neither can I. Anyway there is enough corruption out there without contributing to it.

If you believe that the self employed have had their earnings dropped by 38%, then you must be very naive - the tradesmen that I come across are doing very nicely from the black economy.
