sad fact is that UBER customers will know about surge pricing and be thankful to get a cab even at 50% more than normal

your punters wont use you again

another way in which UBER wins

Actually don't most of us already use surge pricing? We have different rates for different times of day and on bank holidays etc.

But I wouldn't say unsociable hour rates are surges. In the same way a 10% increase in fees shouldn't be classed as a 'hike'.

Uber's surge pricing can happen anywhere and anytime, and can often lead to increases of 300%.

I take the point that some people will pay almost anything to get home at certain times, and why shouldn't the lads out there reap the financial rewards, but I take the longer term view that keeping punters for years and years is better that fleecing them from time to time.

Or charging more when a bomb goes off.

And then you say thanks for pointing that out as it should be T3.

T2 and t3 are totally different to surge pricing as they are predictable.
If you try surge pricing on cash jobs you had better make sure the customers know before the journey begins or you will have fun and games when you ask them to cough up the inflated fare.

Usually 'how much, absolute rip-off, I was in xx last week and it only cost £1.50 to go 20 miles'

Even though our council rates are in the middle of the fare league tables and our company rates way, way, way down near the bottom, in the bottom 12 actually. Same as we were charging 15 years ago !

Our T2 rate is lower than the councils T1 !
We actually have to travel 1/2 mile at T2 just to get the council T1 flag drop :x

I really can't understand drivers who work for nothing. But I am willing to bet that if I were to start a company in your area using the same principals as I do here wherby drivers get to keep a bigger share of their take there would still be very few drivers who would leave their rip off bases and join me.
I don't normally ask our drivers how much they take home because it is none of my business but last week I was a bit taken aback by the money paid in by one driver. So I asked if they would give me an idea of how much they had cleared after paying the mileage for the car. Their first answer was "a lot". I asked if it was more than £600 and the reply was "errm, yes". I pressed a bit more unil we got to £1,000. To which the reply was " well it was just under or just over the £1,000". Yet there are still drivers around here that don't even ask if they car work here.

I suspect the ones earning the big bucks are telling the rest that it's sh** on there and to stay where they are.

It's what I would do.

All the drivers in town know how much they can earn with us but I suspect it is more to do with loosing benefits if they earn a decent wage.

Hit the nail right on the head.
Cannot understand why some are content to live on the poverty line and pay megabucks to line the pockets of operators.
