 Post subject: taxi insurance

omg what a chore? does anyone know where i can get insurance for my taxi , to use as a normal car please i bought a tx1 just as a round a round , and now i have repaired it for the road i tried all today to get insurance for her through search engines ? and everytime i put the reg in it comes up not found so i have called them all and none seem to want to insure her , they keep saying will i be using the taxi for hire ? but i'am not , any help would be appreciated thanks in advance dave

Must be do able...I seen lots of Ex hacks used as normal runarounds...maybe your problem lies more with the DVLA than with the insurers.

hi bloodnock
no not with the dvla ? i did check taxi and others before i bought her dvla was all good , when i checked her MOT history i did try and put other reg's of ex hacks on insurance sites and they all was the same , number not reconigsed please call our help line ? i did contact dvla about this and they replied saying not all insurers have vehicles details ? i just thought someone on here would already have insured there ex hack? and could give me there insurers so i could contact them cheers dave

Try Prince Phillip he ran one for private use.

Its not a smart answer,but are you going down the correct road when entering details,does the log book describe it as a motor car,taxi or hackney carriage,the description you enter is most important,if it states taxi or hackney carriage request DVLA to change description to diesel motor car,perhaps that could be the solution to your problem.

On a different track down here fellas over 65 are getting panned for taxi insurance.

Is this a national problem?
