Found this quote on the BBC News website ;

John Preece, managing director of Taxifast in Plymouth, welcomed the proposals.

"A lot of the hackney drivers have a dinosaur instinct about the past," he said.

"This is an industry where drivers are still allowed to urinate against the front wheel of their vehicles by law. It's archaic.

Is this true ?

It would save me a lot of trips home :lol:

No - I'm sure it's the back wheel!

I'm not really sure if it's true or not, but I've heard it often enough to suggest that there's an element of truth in it.

It was part of the act in London which has since been repealed, a bit like the 'carry a bail of hay' one which also dates back to Victorian times.

Even the London Minicab act of 1906, where the driver is required to carry an English phrase book seems to have been resinded as well.

:wink:

In respect of the 1847 act that there has never been such a condition and likewise the mythical bale of hay. I don't know about any of the London acts?

I would love to see any clause in any act that actually states you can legally pull out your pecker in a public place and pizzz on the wheel of a horse drawn carriage? If anyone finds such an entry will they please let us know.

I believe it might have been a byelaw in the murky past. If it was true it also said the driver had to keep one hand on roof of the vehicle.

Anyway, according to reputation Mr Preece knows all about taking the [edited by admin].

I was going to suggest a byelaw as you say but perhaps even that seems a little fanciful. However, I'm sure someone will come up with the goods if it actually exists.

Before you Pizzz against the rear wheel, you must find and get a policeman to hold the reins of the horse.
