is it just York or is it else where

the streets/city are a little deserted, no big queues, just gentle tick over, the same money is there and taken as per normal weekend, how come, but lack of people, strange, your thoughts,

Its just after the hols folk are skint and the monthly payed dont get there money until Thurs or Fri, and when they do they will have to pay all the bills they did not pay before going away, so it will be the end of Sept before things start to get back to normal,
Was in Edinburgh tonight feck I wish I could work there, the number of hires I turned away whilst waiting for my fare, is unreal, had over 200 wanting me over a 15 min period, had to lock the doors, and told them to stand across the road at the rank that was over flowing even at 11 o clock

so we live in the wrong place

on Saturday i had to go to Scarborough to pick up my wife who had been on holiday for a week in the town with a couple of grandkids, Scarborough is 45 miles away, a good hour to get there, i set of at 1200hrs, i hit the out skirts of Scarborough, i was stuck in traffic for an hour and a half, picked up my wife and crawled back taking a total 5 hours to complete

but never mind

i think the smoking ban has hit York stopping people coming out, but i don't really know, things have gone quite here since the smoking ban, my thoughts

The recent run of interest rises may also have something to do with it. People are having to pay out more on their loans/mortgages so they have less to spend on going out.

Now you know why they pay £50k for a plate. No unmet demand

Spot on, I very much believe the same myself. If you check your records you will find that the Friday prior to a "Bank Hol" is always a bit quieter than normal.

I think it is because they "The Punters" have got to stretch their money over (4) days instead of the usual w/end. Also as it is the last "bank hol" until xmas people tend to have a break away.

I do not think generally that the smoking ban has had much effect at the moment, it will hit if it is going to, when the cold weather kicks in. At the moment it is like a "club", and everyone is sticking together, type of attitude.

One other thing that I do not think that they have taken on board, how many times have you heard someone who was having a drink say, I was alright until I went out into the cold night air!

With the smoking ban they will be in and out of the cold air all night - more drunkedness, and more fighting

I had a good week so far, but the monthly paid not being paid yet is a big minus.

That said hopefully they will be out next week when they are paid. [-o<

Was a quietish one here to, the bonus was the Creamfields pop festival we had on saturday night/sunday. We had loads of walk in jobs going all over the country in the early hours, and all on T2 :D

As an aside, i heard some Hacks were quoting £100 to go to nearby towns (10-15 mile jobs)

It went very much as I thought, Friday not bad but quieter than normal, Saturday was good but not many out of towners - and the same on Sunday. Lack of out of towners tells me one of two things, 1) my luck is out, or 2) Peoples pockets are a bit strained. I think they were out there but not in great numbers, overall a good three days.

It was the bank holiday weekend and the culmination of the fringe, the book, the film, and the TV festivals, as well as the last weekend of the tattoo. And the 40,000 who attended the Scotland v South Africa rugby match thrown in for good measure. The only thing left this week is the Official International Festival, and that's just a few opera and ballet lovers who will all be tucked up with their Ovaltine by 11pm

If you'd been there on Thursday when the transport marshalls (taxi rank bouncers) were standing about with nothing to do, or want to come back next weekend when you'll be able to choose the colour of hair you would like your taxi driver to have, then tell me there's unmet demand, be my guest. But all you'll find is full ranks and a sea of yellow lights cruising the streets. August bank holiday weekend is the busiest weekend of the year (even busier than Hogmanay) but it's no indication for the other 50 weekends of the year.
