Then you are going on what you've been told, re earnings. If I were you I would rent for a few weeks before committing yourself. People in the trade are not always truthful about how much they make. some tell you it's poor, because they don't want the competition. Others exaggerate their earnings for god knows what reason. Unless your sure, try it and see for yourself. A lot has changed in 20 years, and some things are still the same.

If you need a brand new WAV, check what types are acceptable to your LA. Some don't allow certain types e.g. doblos

Well, thats going to depend on what you get for £360 a week really doesn't it? Does it include insurance, fuel, maintenance, radio rent? You would have to consider all those before you put a business plan together and weigh up the costs before you commit yourself to either

thanks for that coment i know how much taxi drivers earn in my town but renting here is very high £360 per week would be a lot cheaper to buy just wanted to know the pros and cons of renting and owning

If your new to the trade and don't know if it's for you then take your time and rent for a while. Or buy one of a lad who is getting a new one. I suspect you will give him more than the part exchange price.

If you want to buy a new one then do so. For the rental cost of £1440 a month you can get a lot of car and a lot of insurance for that. Offer a new lad a low rental and you will be even better off.

The E7 or citron or even the new tw200 are all wheelchair accessible and would cost you around £110 a week in payments £20 for insurance, less with a good NCB, try to get a demonstrator you could knock the price down and it would still be new.
I would ask the council again about the cab having to be brand new as I think your being penalised unnecessarily, they should let you get one that's under 3 years old
What is the councils age policy on cabs??????? meaning at what age must they be replaced

Down here its three year old max for first plating. Personally I would have thought that the rentals (£360) were a good indication as to what you can earn. The advice given is sound, but my guess is that you will find it a lot cheaper to buy than rent.

One thing you will have to take into consideration. If the (L.O) flood your market with countless hackneys as they have done down here, then your takings could drop quite substantially, either way you could struggle.

Challenge it in court, how can they insit on "brand new"? They can proberly insist on them not being beyond a certain age but brand new? i wouldnt have thought so.
Newcastle have derestricted twice since 1988 and each time it was stated that a brand new wav had to be put on a new issued plate.

Always buy.
Renting is ok for a month or so. Buts its dead money.

Why not share the costs of buying with another jocky?
