I caught the end of a programme on Radio 4 in the week.

About health issues in Bradford I believe. Studies there showed that taxi drivers were the unhealthiest by a long long way. The report said their research showed 90% of drivers were obese and spent up to 15 hours a day sat in their cars eating a poor takeaway diet.

Forget seat belts and muggers. Too many in this trade are killing themselves.

I think the answer is that the council should appoint some fitness and lifestyle coaches who could tour the ranks organising some keep fit and diet classes for the drivers whilst they are waiting for their next fare.

Perhaps we can have some rowing machines next to the rank.

I didn't say I know the answer, but I am glad someone has pointed out how unhealthy a lifestyle it is we choose.

Getting out my car for 30 minutes and going for a walk each lunchtime will be my new resolve.

Maybe you could get your drivers a group discount from your local health club.

And give out free oranges on a Tuesday. :-s

The showers are free, and the oranges leave a nice fresh smell. :D
