I suppose you are talking about your friendly man from Mobisoft Oy Tom.

There is certainly much merit in what he says.

To say it has taken over Finland would be a tad of an exageration, as their own documentation says it only handles 400-500 transport orders a day.

Having said that, however, ask him for the Case Study for Tampere, Finland, and it displays the very nature of what could well be the future of Taxis worldwide. But for one single factor....

Human nature will demand that centralised control has competition.

And then (Uncle Sussex turn away at this point), who is to say how many competiing control centres there should be?

The system could only work effectively if the number of control centres were limited.

God, perish the thought... Limitation by numbers again.

Yes that right  . What a demented attitude.

The only way to stop cowboys plying for hire is to ensure that there are enough Hacks on the road to meet demand. If they were there would the cowboys risk plying?

The only solution in the real world is to admit that this antiquated notion of independent driver trawling the streets to be flagged down by custom is a thing of the past.

You need a central booking and despatch system to provide a service which balances supply with demand and allows the most efficent usage of the vehicle and driver.

The modern consumer wants it product delivered to where it is, when it wants it. The notion of a transport system in the 21st century where customers have to walk to a perscribed point and then and wait for the service to arrive is only held by folks with their heads seriously emplanted up their back passage.

How this central booking system is co-ordinated is another, more relevant debate.

Even Claude agrees with me cos he belongs to Dial a Cab.

Right Mick!

then when those who just do that we can all get spats from you and nige for being private hire drivers?

you know proper taxis dont have a radio?

(well palm top computers now?)

you leave me speachless

We are paimted like a pepermint down here. White with green strips.
We have a plate at the back, a plate at the front, plate numbers on the side and the councils logo on our doors.
The PH lads have much the same. In a way they lookj more like a cab than us. :(

Dont think so... how about aquamarine boot and bonnets. No strips whatsoever. I now doubt your credibility of actually belonging to the trade if you dont even know what the correct B&H livery is.

I was trying to paint a funny picture but clearly you wanted it to be accurate.
Credibitly about the b&h taxi trade.
Well i know one company nearly went bust about 10 years ago when the secretary fiddled the books.
Drivers had to pay double dues to get them out of the poo. They only just rustled up the money to pay the phone bill.
Ring any bells.

Well again you have got your facts wrong... it wasnt the secretary, I wont say who it was though. And yes, the membership were conned by one person who had an enormous amount of trust given to them. That person was thrown off the membership thus losing their share, that equated to around a £20,000 fine at that time.

But the membership was so strong that it rallied round, survived, invested heavily and remains the success that it is today.

Anyway, not quite sure what you were trying to achieve. What I was doing was presenting facts about the livery as your previous posting on "Driver caught smoking" was completely inacurate.

If you are going to report matters from Brighton then great.... but make sure you get the facts correct
