Bob Hewlitt secretary of the London Branch of Unite has resigned. Peter Rose :^o has been elected by the rest of his branch, all three of them and takes over from him. Hope he has time to do his secretarial work in between using private hire on his web site.

Oops, another skeleton just ran out of the cupboard. :lol: :lol: [/b]

I quite like Peter Rose, apart from the fact when you're in conversation with him he looks away to the left or the right.

I thought it was me, perhaps I was too ugly, then I heard he done it to Mr acabbie, so it can't be that. :D

Good luck to him, I don't think the T&G has many members in London anyway?

Apparantly his mobile number appeared on the now infamous Bernie May Minicab booking website.

The chap at least had the decency to fall on his sword, unlike the other two who went red in their chubby faces and issue threats of legal action when their little number was exposed.

But that's the Railway Union for you. :roll:

Is that right GBC;

If I phone comcab I can get a PHV on the taxicard scheme the website even tells me;

Do private hire cars have a run-in charge?

Private hire cars do not work on a run-in basis but do have a minimum fare followed by a mileage rate. This can work out cheaper than a taxi on longer journeys.

it's got this gem too;

Why is the Taxicard scheme using cars?

In the past 3 years private hire cars (often referred to as minicabs) have been brought into the Taxicard scheme to provide additional supply where there are fewer taxis available.

I suppose Radio Taxis have executive first.

:wink:

You're being very defensive of Bernard. :wink:

All three of the London Radio Circuits offer that facility, it doesn’t sit well with me, but that's life in 2009 and it’s also one of the reasons I don't have a computer terminal in my Taxi and probably never will have.

But. [-X

They don't deny it, unlike the group of RMT individuals I'm referring to and their vociferous campaigns against Minicabs, when in fact they were in cahoots with them from day one.

One down, how many more to go? :-k

it's not fair to be labelling all the RMT chaps like that, only a few have been linked to the PH fiasco you mention. Many of the guys i know who are in the RMT have no time at all for the PH chaps and indeed spend a great deal of time outside clubs at night making sure that the work gets in taxis and not in a touts car!

Perhaps you need to come along to some of the "hits" we've organised and meet some of the guys. You will see that they "may be in the RMT" but their passion and commitment to the trade and the eradication of the touting culture is on the same level and may even surpass your own!

The important thing is that they belong to a trade org, it matters not which one in my eyes but at least they have membership to one............perhaps you should turn your attention to those that choose to do nothing at all or don't belong to ANY trade org! They are the ones that need to be shamed into doing something.

Not seen you out there recently, still counting your money eh ? :wink:

Quite correct, but it's who these individuals are, and how near the top of the tree they are is the part that cracks me up.

That's enough for my humble outgoings, you lads that own these flashy new Mercs will have to do a bit more I guess? :wink:

Are you talking about the bogus one at the flyers or the one on this site. Either way Peter Rose's number is not on either web site. I had his number once and its not on either web site

He does it from his own web site quite seperate from any I have seen even the bogus ones made up or doctored by someone with a gripe against John Pace of the RMT.

Oh bugger :roll: I've done it again yet another skeleton. :-o

Lest we forget Mr Hewlitt;

Black cabbies for black cabsWhen Ken Livingstone and the London Development Agency (LDA) launched a scheme in October to encourage more people from black, Asian and ethnic minority communities to become licensed taxi drivers in London, the Elephant and Castle-based London Cab Drivers Club (LCDC) protested.

Dozens of London black cabs drove round the LDA’s offices sounding their horns and blowing whistles. The LCDC says the scheme is ‘an attempt at social engineering where the result will be to create division among black, Asian and white people where none exists within the taxi trade at this time.’

One in 20 existing taxi drivers is from a black, Asian or ethnic minority which comprise nearly a third of London’s population. Only one per cent of current drivers are Asian and 2.4 per cent are black.

The project will support people from under-represented groups in participating and completing the Knowledge. Help will also be provided in language and numeracy skills, and childcare provision.

A response to the LCDC protest from Bob Hewlitt, Unite Central London cab section, was published in the Morning Star: ‘The aim of the LCDC is simple - keep the London cab trade white, middle aged and male. Their demonstration brought shame on the whole trade.’
