yesterday i noticed 2 people getting into a cab, nothing unusal, except these two people must have been 25 to 30 stone in weight, each

lucky they got into a TX , i watched in amazement as the cab rear suspension dropped at leat 6 inches as it set of

if they had got into a say Mondeo, dread to think

can these people be refused leagally, ie damaging seats, suspension, and up front steering gone light and maybe over loaded

how would you approach people like this, of this size and weight, tif they was getting in your cab

get stopped and weighed by VOSA and guess who gets the points+fine?

I think if you could prove that carriage would be damaging to the vehicle and therefore unsafe you might successfully be able to decline the hire. That said, you would probably have to be pretty damned polite about it to your rotund customers. Otherwise you're leaving yourself wide open to a civil 'loss of dignity' case.

My Tourneo may be based on a Transit (payload 1300kg in transit guise) but i put 7 in for manchester, which wasnt too bad but they had so much luggage it must have been borderline and they had a van off me just for luggage coming back, didnt quibble at paying the extra though

I think as an adult it's your decision to wear the seatbelt and therefore you who gets the fine. The driver isn't doing anything illegal.

No..im more concerned that Thirty stone of pure blubber builds up a fair amount of kinetic energy under acute braking.......and i dont want to be the filling in a dashboard and blubber sandwich...

Then if it's a personal safety thing I think you can decline the hire on that basis.

"I'm very sorry, Sir, but seeing as how you refuse to wear the seatbelt and you're sitting behind me I have to respectfully decline your business. Oh, the seatbelt doesn't fit you? Again, I'm sorry but I'm not prepared to have you sit behind me without a seatbelt on."

Some rather large woman got in my motor a few weeks ago, she sat in the back when all of a sudden there was this almighty BANG, I knew straight away a spring had gone. I pulled up and had a look under the rear off side and I was right she's busted a spring, 1 hour off the road and £40 lighter.

That may be a good idea except you would need to carry a set of scales around to weigh people before they get in. After all is someone who weighs 30 stone going to tell the truth about their weight?
