As a new badge holder, I'm well aware that insurance is going to be expensive. I've had a couple of quotes and I'm going ahead anyway.

Now the quotes I've had are for my own vehicle - a 58 reg Vectra 1.9 Diesel.

I'm now going to be getting a settle car though instead of using my own.

I've been told that having a settle car will push the cost of insurance up?

Is it likely to be more expensive then for me to insure a 4/5 year old settle car than to insure my own 18mth old Vectra? If so, does anyone know what sort of price difference I'm looking at?

Any help appreciated.

going by your use of the word settle, your a scally (from Liverpool), your insurance should be included in the settle price as its not your car

How many years NCB do you have on your own car?? you can get insurance from the taxi centre

Many 'settle' car operators now give you an option of 'car and insurance' or 'car only' packages.
The situation I have is that the settle car operators can't insure me as I'm under 25.
So... I'm putting my own insurance in place, and just renting the car.

As opposed to a scally from Galasheils, eh Skip and that would be 'you're' and not 'your'

To be honest when I was on a settle car I didn't see any difference in the price for insurance, having said that it was some 7 years ago. If you're on a settle car try and get weekly insurance and try the job out first. If you don't like it you're not tied to any remit to insurance companies. If you do like it bin the settle car and insure your own vehicle. It's hard enough to make a living without having to pay out for a vehicle you don't need

Not sure how many insurance companies will allow you to insure a car that's not yours.

Most of them! The vast majority of new cars are bought on HP. You do not own the car, the HP company does but you have to insure it. The same with leasing.

If you go to Clement & Gallagher then it's about £75 a week or you can pay monthly for £211. Once your over 34 there's another monthly at £187. None have no claims bonuses but the weekly policy does go down each year if you have no accident. Never heard that one about not being allowed on block insurance because your under 25. If you are in Liverpool then try a fella called Ray Holt on sefton street in Litherland next to Hoppys, I think he does sefton and Liverpool plates.

£75 per week sounds a bit steep to me. I asked my insurers if I could put my 23 year old son on our fleet policy and was told that all drivers had to be over 25. They did eventually put him on but it did cost extra and he has a larger excess applied to him.

£75 is steep grandad and there's a whopping excess that comes with it as well. I think the block is something to do with Seaforth cars wheras Delta's company cars are done through Acorn in Formby, and thats all the same settle price all in and there's loads of lads on Delta under 25.

I take it the Wirral is the posh bit where they put the rubbish out in Asda bags instead of tesco ones, mind you in Birkenhead they just dump it on the street
