Taxi Driver Online

It is common knowlege in my town that if any of the one man bands have a problem with their taxi and it has to come off the road for repairs, that I will lend them a taxi so that they don't miss a nights takings particulaly at weekends. Now I don't charge them for the use of the car, all I expect is that they look after it and fill it back up with fuel when they have finished. I know I am a fool to myself by not charging but that is the kind of guy that I am. However a driver rang up on Saturday evening saying his car was off the road and could he borrow one of mine to which, of course, I agreed.
On Sunday morning I noticed that the car had not been fully refuelled so I took it to the garage at the bottom of my road and sure enough it took £11.50 to fill it up. Now this would not have been enough to cover the mileage that had been done so obviously the driver had actually put some in but not enough to fill it. Why when you are doing someone a favour do they have to take the pi55? To further annoy me the car has a tracker in that sends an alarm to my computer every time the speed exceeds 70 MPH as this is the maximum permitted on any UK roads. In my area there are no roads with a limit over 60 MPH. The alarm was triggered 16 times over the night and looking at the speeds I was truly shocked. At one time whilst clearly having passengers on board the tracker shows the speed at 95 MPH yes 95 MPH and various other speeds of around 88 MPH.
When asked about the speeds the driver just said well thats the speed that I normally drive at, I don't think it has damaged the car.
Well I suppose that this will be the last time I lend a car out then.

I loaned a guy my spare LWB van once, i had any driver/courier insurance...

his lad came off a dual carriageway island in the right hand lane, straight on, some guy in a BMW X5 came up the inside, my vans passenger mirror hit his driver side mirror, pushing mine FORWARD (i.e. he was going for it), and wiped his mirror off the 4x4

cost £750 to supply/paint/fit his mirror.....(yeah, ONE MIRROR)

3 years later i discover this had lost me the NCB on that policy when i tried to use it, £450 lost in year 1, £250 year 2, £100 year 3....

no contribution from said subbie of course




another time i had a big van loaned out come back empty, and i had to fetch it from coventry, 2 years later the same guy had a strop cos i covered a job for him he couldnt do, and made £200 on it...

Ask the driver why he took the pi**?

I wasn't suprised, I was shocked. If the passengers had complained to the LA about the excessive speed, would the council consider him to be not fit and proper and a danger to the public?

We are a very small town with only about 8-9 independant drivers. I just assumed that anyone borrowing a car would treat it with respect and not thrash it. Well you live and learn.

I daresay if someone was spotted in a car on a motorway doing 30 then something would be done about it.
