On leaving Radio Taxis to join LPH firm Premier, sales manager Chris Savva says that the decision to move from the Licensed Black Cab industry into Private Hire came down to one simple question.

'Do I believe that corporate London would be interested in travelling in a new BMW 7 series driven by a licensed professional driver, wearing a smart suit and be charged at 20% less than the same journey in a black cab?'.

'It is clear to me that there is significantly more potential in Private Hire than there is in the licensed cab industry'.

Nuff said.

It depends on who the driver is I suppose.

If you can enlighten me as to how Addisons Lee's minimum £7.50 fare and 'Blueback's' (minus the name now!) £8 minimum fare is 20% cheaper than a £2.20 flag fall, or a two pound telephone booking charge, then I wish you were my accountant.

So are minicabs cheaper?? Get an on-line quote from Kings Cross to T4 At Heathrow , see if it beats £47.

And of course when a black cab is asked to go from Heathrow to Chippenham he charges £240.

What is that? about £2.40 a mile.

And when these corporates want to book a black cab when do they start paying? Not when they get in! But when the driver is 3 or 4 quid away.

But when the circuits send a cab don't they allow the driver to run up a few quid extra for going to the job, and then put a couple of quid on for the honour of taking the booking.

So to me, it's not that hard to see how a well run LPH firm could do the job 20% cheaper.

As I said, forget about corporate accounts, look at the man in the street who makes up 70 - 80% of the work, and again get a quote from a minicab firm who betters the £47 quoted above.

Minicab driver online seems to be sharing this site, still, they're licensed now, instant respectability, quality career drivers, and pine air freshners.

Where? Chippenham? Cheap at the price. Ask Premier Despatch how much? or book Ollie on line, he can do you a deal.

Bottom line, you have a choice, book a taxi or a minicab, thats the beauty of having two types.

But i re-iterate, minicab's are fast becoming more expensive than Licensed Taxi's. Licensing, i'm glad to say, has not come cheap for them.

Welcome to the expensive world of the PCO and reality.

We have the same kind of thing up here green badge, saloon hacks say their cheaper than the WAV's.

The public think "yes the saloons are cheaper because them WAV's cost a fortune".

The fact is that we all charge the same.

Well have a similar thing down here.
Both ph and taxis charge the same but they still think Ph are cheaper.
Many years ago when i drove a ph people always use to come up to me asking for me to do a Yorkie.

so you see TDO, Despite all your rules to back professionals, some lies about taxi drivers can remain on screan.

if you are cutting out lies cut out them all!

I take it that cgull meant that people were asking him to pick up when he wasn't supposed to.
