If a job came along at £26,000/year, company car, pension, 24 days paid holiday a year, no unsocial hours, no nights away from home, only working 8am till 4pm with an early finish fridays, would take it and walk away from this "trade"?...

The legal requirement for holidays is 28 days per year.
But no, I wouldn't take it myself.

Yes ... you can still go out Friday & Sat Nights and do a few jobs with the cab..
Keep both opions open, if you dont like the job you still got the cab...

Nope as I only work from 10 till 3 Mon - Sat. Live on that and still have holidays when I want them. I'm in compete control of how and when I work. Everything is paid off \:D/ Only the utilities to worry about \:D/ Only 5 years to go before I can draw my pensions...... \:D/ Would have when everything was not so rosy, and still kept the cab as a standby if it went pear shape. The chances of a job like that are few and far between now so I'm thankful I have one..... It always looks greener on the other side...... :-|

That again depends on ones individual situation. It will probably get worse, so ungreen? It has done so before when I was doing 70 plus hours a week during the last recession late 80's early 90's. Interest rates were at an all time high and I still managed to get through it as many others did. It means being very frugal and careful with what you do have.... Maybe the trade will go down the drain, but then again with mounting immigration and influx into the trade over the Liebour years it's not surprising. I've survived this long so another 5 years won't make much difference.... :-|

I should have asked for replies just from owner/drivers with one car, anyone running cars/drivers as employees SHOULD be making in excess of £26K

No, but I would be tempted for £35,000.

So is this Royal Navy, Army or Royal Air Force?

Must be RAF - they only send their Officers to war.

Does this mean that you must be earning this gross now Sussex??
I've heard that pickings down your way are pretty good, or is it just another myth?
