Our area changed in 2004 before any private or general could be any colour, but then they made it that saloon generals had to be white in north Lanarkshire (south area) and ph's can be any colour except from white, but wheelchair generals eg e7, tx4 can be any colour. The central area of north LAN changed to all saloon generals have to be black, the rest is the same as south area, and north area didn't get any color regs, I was in the local TOA at the time and we had a meeting with the council but they said that it helps identify taxis from ph's but a ph doesn't have a roof sign its not rocket science. Anyways they ignored us and allot of us had to get new cars including me but my 51 plate Octavia was due for a change anyways so got a new white Octavia and then had the fun of having to wash it every 3 days due to dirt showing easy

To you, me and all normal people it may not be rocket science, but to some council officials salting chips is as difficult as rocket science.

Carlisle is white only for saloon hacks and any colour WAV

Allerdale is any colour - but have to have daft chequered stripes - same with Copeland who have to have different colour daft stripes

Eden is any colour.

I'm certain south Lakeland is any colour and Barrow is the same.

In the Scottish Borders you can have any colour or type of vehicle, as long as it has 4 doors, and an engine from 1400 CC upwards
