All those who work off a rank, do you work first off, or a free for all.
In Galashiels its a free for all.

Etiquette has long gone round here.
Despite a driver having his badge cancelled for three months for repeated rank infringements IE not pulling up on rank, touting punters by talking and flashing lights
The council themselves say unless a passenger insists to go to the front its only fair HA HA !
Spent last Sunday out for four hours plus Did One Job £5 had 6 jobs picked behind me
WAV Beverley East Yorkshire
Besides a piece of 3 be 3 is there a way to solve this problem

PS: have you noticed how the drivers that pick up behind you carnt look you in the eye's ???

so what happens if a punter comes to last/rear car on a rank, do you say no?

isnt that refusing a fare?

if the punter had a guide dog would that be a further offence?

if they were ethnic and kicked off because of the refusal where would you stand?

and why should the customer not have the choice which car to get in?

Well that's half the problem the stand is not a continuous line it's intersected for access for car parking plus it's two lines of cars at the moment well and truly a free for all
The square is being remoddled at mo and the new rank will be a single line
Me thinks I'll be parking very close in the future

Yes they are a desperate lot one driver's nickname is desperate Dan !

You direct them to the front cab. You do your best to get them to do so.
If they insist on taking your cab, you take them and explain to the front driver what is going on.

No.

No.

They haven't been refused, just directed to the front cab.

They have.
There's no need to exploit that fact to the detriment of everyone else though, is there?
Unless you're a greedy barsteward, of course

Free for all round here 75% of all jobs go to the cars at the BACK of the rank coutesy of all the cherry pickers who have "trained" local customers to go to the back this afternoon during a one hour period i counted over 20 jobs going to vehicles behind me ( mainly because i was in the WAV so hadn't a cat in hells chance) 8 of those jobs went to cars from my firm whereas the vehicles towards the front of the rank struggled I only managed 2 jobs off the rank all day whereas most of my drivers did between 6 and 10 but with 4 wheelchair jobs in today i had to drive the WAV

when I was hack and on a circuit, there being only 2 in the town (circuits/firms) punters would choose a car from the favourite company, also 80% of pedestrians came from the back of the rank as thats where the main street was, few bothered walking 100yds just to take the 1st car

it sounds like the trades version of "IM FREE!"

so am i...
