Apparently one of the vehicles in our town has been given a 28 day delayed suspension on his car. The owner has 28 days to rectify the fault. What heinous crime has been committed I hear you ask. Well go on then ask! Well the car has no wheel trims so it gets a suspension notice. The owner is adamant that he isn't going to put any trims on the car so we will have to wait and see.

Wheel-trims are safety-critical?? Some are a danger when they fly off and roll across the road.

My LO - when doing his age exemption check to give me the age exemption FORM for test - noted down one of my 4 trims didnt match the other three

So by not having any on the vehicle, they are no longer a danger. There is nothing in the council policy that even mentions wheel trims. There is something in the vehicle inspection report about wheel trims, but we do not get a copy of this report, or at least we shouldn't. The report forms are kept at the garages and after inspection, the garage are supposed to send the completed form to the Council.

Our council added this to our vehicle test requirements in 2008

Quote:
Note: Removal of wheel trims/hub caps by the presenter is
required prior to the test to facilitate checking of wheel
nuts, failure to do so will result in the test being terminated.

I don't have any wheel trims on my taxi. I'll bet there are several in your town that also don't.

Alloy wheels.

It would seem that at some stage the wording on the inspection report has been changed to read "The vehicle must have a full set of matching (or close likeness) hub caps/wheel trims.

Madness.

Ask the council where it is written that they must have wheel trims.
