Just one more tiny update, it had a recall for an Air Con relay cable, it was in and out in 40 mins coutesy of S&B Merc Commercials in Hatfield.

They're offering the routine servicing as per the book, plus parts and oils etc, for 5 years / 100K miles, for under £900. (one payment)

That seems good value.

Merc quote: front pads : £94 (Plus VAT of course!)

Rear pads £87 (Plus VAT again)

They must be made from gold.

You can only imagine the cost for the above with discs all round.

FFS x 12.

FFS, that seems cheap for Merc-fitted parts for a big vehicle in London.

I'm about £130 per axle for a saloon in the middle of nowhere.

Mind you, first front pads lasted 60,000, rears 90,000 and I'm still on the original rear discs at 140,000 :D

Only replaced the rear tyres once as well =D>

WTF do you drive?

Like winning the pools. :D

A few now, but the best one to date happened yesterday on T5 down at the flyers.

A couple have been holding back, they've spotted the Merc and know it's got room for all their cases and air con.

'Would you take us to Southampton University'?

:D

Pushed the rear wheel steering button tonight, it beeped engaged then re-centered itself.

FFS, a few weeks after the upgrade it decides to stop working . . . again.

I'm booking it in at a Mercedes Commercial dealer this time, stuff KPM and their 17 year old 'mechanics'.

Well after the 'rear wheel steer' upgrade, it's now failed twice by not fully actuating.
Whilst this hasn't stopped me working, it's getting a tad tedious taking it back to Mercedes, albeit it's a 'One80' add on part and not original Mercedes..

It's been repaired, apparantly, again by Merc Commercials at Welham Green last week. It's due it's test soon, so I've pulled the plug on it until the day of it's test and after that it can stay unplugged until I trade it in or get a pull by the PCO gestapo.

The taxi disc reminder arrived today, only a miniscule £445 this year!

At this rate, I can see me getting one of the new Euro 5 ones next year with the new steer system and cheaper tax disc.

So in practical terms is it a big deal not having the tight turning circle available?

It's not the be all and end all, but it is very handy in cities like London, some of our ranks are a right pain without it.

If I was a face down at Heathrow, as in someone who only ever works off the Airport, then I could say with my hand on my heart, the turning circle is simply not needed.

But then we might end up with these Doblo things as London cabs. eusasmiles.zip

How can that be that much when my Mondeo is only £115 per year?

Aah,the great tax rip off...
My dearly departed 58 plate Vito from Cab Direct was registered as a Light Goods Van and the tax was around £180 from memory. The replacement 59 plate came registered as a diesel car and last year cost me £425 tax.A mate then bought a 60 plate Vito again from Cab Direct and was registered as...a Light Goods Van....WTF? The only difference is his is a manual.But....the coppers can't pull me over and do me for doing 70 on a dual carriageway whereas on a LGV....oh yes they can....limited to 60!!
So,for that reason alone I'll pay the extra without complaint. :D
