So put your BIG gobs where your livelihoods are and start supporting your trade now by joining a reputable trade body,

Can you recommend a reputable Trade Body? It would also help if you could tell us your reasons why you think they deserve our support. After all, the whole gamut of trade bodies represent less than 10% of the Taxi trade. Perhaps you can tell us why in London the T&G only represent 5% of the London Cab Trade. It would also help if you can tell us what these individual trade bodies have achieved over the last 20 years.

It would be interesting to hear your views but first I would brush up on your punctuation if you want to be taken seriously.

Best wishes

JD

JD, I am suprised by your response.

It is not the job of the editor of the countries best trade publication to advise what trade body we should support, that is an individuals decision.

The apathy within the trade is summed up in your reply, the "what can they do for us attitude", instead of wanting to be a part of something.

Instead of asking what they have achieved, perhaps we should reflect on what they could have achieved given the support.

I am very suprised by your response, totally prevocative and I would have thought you could have done better.

Regards

Captain cab

Lol Cap I'm afraid the Editor of the best trade mag in the country should have thought about his comments before he pressed the enter button.

He said join a "reputable" Trade body, I don't know which trade body he had in mind or indeed which trade bodies he felt were reputable? Asking for his opinion and indeed his guidance is not necessarily being apathetic.

I never asked what the trade could do for me, I can of course look after myself. I enquired of Mr. Millward his reasons why he thinks these trade bodies deserve our support? If you were selling me a car I would want to know its performance capability, likewise if you were selling me a brand of soap powder. I would want to know if my dirty washing was going to come out whiter than white. lol

On the other hand perhaps they could ask themselves, are we doing things right? And if not why not? Has that thought never occurred to you? Mr Millward seems to think the Trade bodies are doing things right, perhaps that’s why they are fragmented.

The only issue that brings them together in 34% of the country is deregulation. I'm afraid some owners think beyond deregulation and are probably sick and tired of the same old faces trying to protect something that will eventually be done away with. Some would rather see it done away with now rather than waste anymore time and effort on the subject.

My response was tongue in cheek as was Mr. Milward's but I suspect his opening gambit was far more controversial than my Sicilian defence.

By the way, don't let him see those spelling mistakes of yours, you know what he's like with regard to spelling and punctuation. lol

Best wishes

jd,

perhaps I should have offered a kings knight opening :D

i realise your comments were to a degree tongue in cheek, unfortunately the site doesnt have a spellchecker.

with regards to the national bodies policies, these are of course directed from paying members, i can only really urge those with views such as expessed on this excellent site, to change the system from within. This can only be done in one way, by joining (ok sussex will have a go at that)

The bodies are blameless, it is the members who give direction.

The trade bodies dont do things right, indeed whatever they decide on will upset some people, however in a democracy, you must unfortunately go along with the majority vote. Unless your like our friends at TODA when you can throw your toys out of the pram if things dont go how you want. Or like our friend in North Lancs and threaten violence.

I think you've seen my comments on here for a while, and may realise that i dont have a problem with the subject of licenses being issued, so long as the subject is looked at correctly by all interested parties on a local level.

Either way, I look forward to Mr Millwards response.

regards

Captain cab

I would sooner be represented by 'Atilla the Hun', than by the likes of Kavanaugh and the T&G.

For anyone who has missed something here, Mr T played the part of BA Baracus in the A team, he also drove a Black van with a flashy red stripe up the side.

There was also Dirk Benedict, who played the role of flashy conman Face aka Templeton Peck.

As well as George Peppard who played the leader of the A Team Hannibal Smith.

One of the shows favourite characters was Howling Mad Murdoch (Dwight Shultz), well he was my favourite anyway. Incidentally, in one of the episodes the team was hired to protect a cab firm from a rival, my new found hero, Murdoch, assumed the identity of Captain Cab.

Anyway, Mr T, hope youve got rid of that fear of flying and love the Max Wall quote.

hehe
