Not to the kind of people who are going to set fire to the car afterwards.
How many of the scum also film themselves doing crap like this and then put it on you tube?

Then if it isn't a massive deterrent to prevent, it's a massive aid for conviction.

Not when it has been destroyed by fire.

I think having a negative attitude towards this is exactly what cabbyman is referring to when he asks "How the f*ck do we motivate the drivers into looking after their own safety". Bad, bad grandad!!

It may seem negative to you Toots but it is no good letting these drivers think that CCTV is the be all and end all to their safety. It is just one tool that may help in some cases but in my opinion, it would not have helped in this situation. At this point in time we do not even know the circumstances of the attack. This may be a part of some taxi war and this car had been targeted.

It is alleged that a local driver was attacked and his car set alight the other night. The incident appears to have resulted in a major scrapyard fire although it has not been possible to confirm this so far.

In an attempt to galvanise the local trade into some form of self-preservation, we need to try to put together a CCTV package, preferably with some form of HMG/EU subsidy.

How would CCTV help on this type of situation? The car was presumably destroyed in the fire and any CCTV equipment would have gone up in smoke with it.

Some units are designed to withstand extreme heat.

Most aren't.

The ones we had could withstand tempratures in a fire.

The alleged attack appears to have concluded nearly next door to the local council provided travellers site. Details are very sketchy at present.

Read between the lines on this:

I wasn't suggesting that it was the be all and end all, but, the more deterrents the better imo. The point is if you can get the trade together to take an interest in their safety you can build on that interest to try and keep them together for other matters at hand :D
