So tell me then if you can't work until you have a license then how do people get a license if you have to work Chester before you do the knowledge so you'll pass it :? I've never worked Chester but I'd put money on passing it  Me thinks nothing is impossible and certainly not a knowledge test for Cheshire West

We have submitted quite a few of the questions etc so hopefully when drivers do get their licenses they should know where they are going.

Personally I think all the drivers should do the new knowledge test, it'll confirm that those that proclaim to know everything actually do

I'll bet there will be loads of eastern europeans who pass the test without setting foot in the country.

The test is for the hackney badge in Chester only. You can still apply for a Ph licence. You can work PH for a while and when you know where you are going you can sit the test. There was always a separate hackney 'test' in Chester until we became Cheshire West and Chester.

Why line the pocket of PH operators to learn the knowledge for Chester, did every HC driver do that in Chester? I don't think they did, why should the entry into HC in Chester be any harder than it was for the current drivers. I don't think that HC drivers in Chester should have any part in the knowledge questions set by the LA unless they are prepared to prove they know as much as they expect a new entry to know, imo. All that aside there is no need to even enter Chester to learn it's knowledge (the memory is a wonderful thing) although some would benefit if they did

You're quite right toots, you don't need to enter Chester to have a basic knowledge of the city. If the new drivers from Blackburn,Bolton and the likes had a basic knowledge that would be fine. It's just a tad embarrassing when a new driver gets loaded in front of you on the rank and then runs up to you and asks , in bad English "where's the Town Hall". I personally would have no objection to sitting the test. Most of us undertook the NVQ/b-tec off our own backs.

I'm not afraid to admit that I learnt a few things on the course (even after 20yrs driving)it certainly didn't make me a worse driver.
