I've heard there's a similar problem in Folkestone with most of the firms cutting well under the meter price just to get work. From what I've heard no-one is taking any more passengers than before, just doing the job cheaper. Why?
Because there is a large section of the trades, both hackney but mainly private hire, that believe you go to work to carry as many passengers in a day's work as possible.
I, on the other hand, go to work to earn as much money in a day's work as possible.
And the two things are not the same.
Sensible words there Brummie! Any fool can be busy all the time, but I always go for the price per mile rather than the cash turnover! I've found that (usually) as cash turnover goes up, profit goes down.
One of our local "fools" (no longer a ph driver, got banned for driving whilst medically unfit), used to do every 34 job, day and night, always busy, yet probably earned the same amount as I do for twice as much work!
