Thatcher let the no win no fee whiplash claims into the UK from the USA in 1990 ,and so we are all paying for the solicitors fees through outrageous insurance policies.

Quote:
The 1990 reforms, which granted rights of audience to solicitors, introduced the principle of no win, no fee to English law and created the office of Legal Services Ombudsman, came hard on the heels of big bang in the City and Thatcher’s 1987 election victory.

With the prime minister’s blessing, the reforms made their debut in three green papers published in January 1989 by the Lord Chancellor

I am of such an age that one major event sticks in my mind, that of the Aberfan disaster on Friday 21 October 1966, killing 116 children and 28 adults.

The actions of ex-senior union official and Labour MP (indeed minister for power) in denying the NCB (a nationalised industry) were responsible and even robbing the disaster fund to pay for removing the remains of the waste tip must represent the most vile of actions in recent times by any goverment offical, not till 1997 was that money repaid. (by a certain Labour PM)

The graves of the children
