The thing is that Muslims follow the teachings of Mohammed who was a general who lead his troops into battle so of course his teachings will be full of "fighting talk" whereas christians follow the teachings of a pacifist

By the way is it me or does beardy the bomber in the OP look very similar to the ring leader of the Brummie terrorist cell

Very pacifist were the Christians, tell that to South Americans who were butchered by the peace loving Spanish Christians or the crusaders, remember them? They also loved peace.

I think the point being made was that Christ was a pacifist, not that Christians are.

Personally, I think all religion is crap.

I said "follow the teachings of a pacifist " human nature being what it is all sorts of atrocities are committed in the name of peace or religion but it doesn't make it right and I cetainly was not implying that

Two men facing lengthy jail sentences for raping teenage boy in city centre department store toilets

  • Alex Wilson-Fletcher, 42, and Abdelkader El-Janabi, 55, convicted of attacking boy, 14, in Debenhams
  • They told him: 'Come with us, you're going to do anything we say'
  • Boy tried to run away, but was cornered and directed to men's toilets
  • Pair caught after police released their CCTV images in nationwide hunt
  • El-Janabi is former Iraqi army intelligence officer who fought in Gulf War

Two men have been found guilty of raping a teenage boy in the toilets of a city centre department store.

Alex Wilson-Fletcher, 42, and former Iraqi army intelligence officer Abdelkader El-Janabi, 55, attacked the 14-year-old victim in the Debenhams store in Manchester on a busy Saturday afternoon last summer.

The boy was in the Arndale Centre at around 5.45pm on June 2 last year when he went to the toilets.

While there he was approached by the defendants and led out of the Arndale Centre and forced to go to nearby Debenhams where he was raped, Manchester Crown Court heard.

Wilson-Fletcher, of Oldham Street, Manchester, and El-Janabi, of Artillery Court, Ardwick, Manchester were today both convicted by a jury of two counts of rape and two counts of sexual touching following a two-week trial.

The pair were tracked down after images from CCTV were circulated by police.

They were remanded into custody by Judge Michael Leeming QC who warned they face substantial jail terms when they are sentenced on June 6.

Earlier in the run-up to the assault at the retail giant's flagship Manchester store, El-Janabi told the victim: 'Come with us, you’re going to do anything we say and if you try to run away we will catch you.'

The boy said he tried to run off, but was caught after being cornered by the two men.

After the assault, he ran out of the four-storey department store and confided to a friend about his ordeal.

Police were called after the boy’s mother found out about the incident.

Eljanabi and Wilson Fletcher were trapped after police issued CCTV of the rapists as part of a nationwide public appeal for help.

It emerged the Iraqi had been seen 'hanging around' the third-floor toilets on numerous occasions by staff and had on one occasion been escorted off the premises.

Wilson-Fletcher handed himself in after seeing his photo on a BBC 'wanted' website and was picked out at an ID parade due to his distinctive lazy eye. The boy was said to have been left 'absolutely devastated' by his ordeal.

The assault began in the early evening of June 2 last year after the boy went to a gentleman’s toilet at Manchester Arndale Centre after leaving a youth club.

As he stood at the urinals, El-Janabi and Wilson-Fletcher began staring at him. Giving evidence by video link, the boy said: 'I left the youth group at 5.45pm.

'I was walking near the Arndale and I needed the toilet. When I went in, some Asian person stood next to me and started staring at me, looking at me up and down.'

The boy said he felt so ‘anxious’ and ‘nervous’ he moved along one urinal for more privacy - but Wilson-Fletcher had already entered the toilets and started eyeing him up on his other side.

The youngster, who cannot be named for legal reasons, added: 'The Asian person grabbed my arm and said "come with us, you’re going to do anything we say and if you try to run away we will catch you".'

The boy said a cleaner and some other shoppers were present in the toilets while he was threatened and said: 'I started panicking. He mumbled it to me - he said it to me so no-one else could hear.'

The boy said he made a dash for it, but El-Janabi caught up with him, motioning the boy in the direction of the Debenhams store with his paper - with Wilson-Fletcher following closely behind.

'He tapped me with the paper. The white person was behind - if I had ran the opposite way, the white man would have been there', he said.

The court heard that once inside the store, the victim was directed into the lift, they took up to the toilets.

Neil Fryman, prosecuting, said: 'They both went into the male toilets. A short time later, prosecution say, that Mr Wilson-Fletcher went into these toilets at Debenhams.'

The two men then abused the boy before Eljanabi raped him as Wilson-Fletcher looked on. Mr Fryman said: 'The two defendants are in it together. It was a common enterprise. Mr Wilson-Fletcher was in full presence, knowing what was going on, intending it to go on and encouraging it to go on.'

The complainant was examined and a nationwide appeal was launched, with CCTV images of the men. El-Janabi became a suspect after his flat caretaker alerted police after seeing photograph of him in a press release.

Police visited his home in Longsight, Manchester, on August 23, 2012, but there was no answer.

My Fryman said: 'Activity could be seen behind the door but the door wasn’t opened.'

But police swooped the next morning at 7.55am and arrested El-Janabi at his flat, in which officers found DVDs strongly suggesting he had a sexual interest in young men. He was matched to the man in the CCTV footage by facial-mapping experts.

El-Janabi who settled in the UK in 2012 later told police: 'I had nothing to do with this attack. I was not there. I was elsewhere. I didn’t know the complainant. I have no involvement in this whatsoever.'

The court heard he had served in the Iraqi army as a military intelligence officer and fought in the Iran-Iraq war in 1980 and the Gulf War of the early 90s.

He claimed he had been captured and tortured by American soldiers which left him with long standing knee injuries and said he was bedridden at the time of the sexual assault.

Wilson-Fletcher said he had 'no recollection what happened that day', but denied any involvement in an attack.

PCSO Oguz Batmaz tipped off drug criminals

Image

A police community support officer (PCSO) tipped off criminals about where cannabis was being grown and helped them evade detection, a court heard.

Oguz Batmaz, 27, part of the Mottingham and Chislehurst team in Bromley, south-east London, also supplied cocaine.

Southwark Crown Court heard he carried out hundreds of checks to tell criminals what data police had on them.

A two-day sentencing hearing for Batmaz, of Quilters Place, New Eltham, concludes on Friday.

Batmaz was placed under surveillance by the Metropolitan Police in 2010.

In CCTV released on Thursday he is heard calling people from police premises to tell them about the drugs.

'Doing a favour'

The PCSO, who later resigned, was paid £5,000 to look for information for an associate using the police computer system, Crimint, said prosecutor David Durose.

He was also heard tipping off his accomplices about a cannabis factory discovered in Mayday Gardens in Blackheath.

On 7 April 2010, Batmaz told an accomplice: "The way I see it I'm doing boys a favour.

"Coming up on the system they're obviously going to get raided at one point so I'm just raiding them before they get raided."

He also spent time with Wayne Farrell, a convicted drug dealer who had failed to return from prison leave in 2009, for which Batmaz admitted wilful neglect of his duty to ensure a prisoner at large was returned to custody.

Batmaz admitted charges of conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office, conspiring to steal cannabis, supply cannabis and cocaine and wilfully neglecting to perform his duties.

Another PCSO, Nicholas Goodwin, was tried for conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office by helping Batmaz but he was acquitted in February.

Seven other people have also been convicted with Batmaz for their part in the drugs conspiracy.

They will all be sentenced on Friday.

Derby chimney body named as Kevin Gough

The body was found in a chimney at Moody and Woolley Solicitors

A suspected burglar whose body was found in the chimney of a law firm has been named by police as Kevin Gough.

The 42-year-old is thought to have been in the chimney at Moody and Woolley Solicitors, in Derby, for several weeks.

His body was discovered at about noon on Wednesday after staff raised concerns about flies and a smell at the office in St Mary's Gate.

An inquest is due to open at Derby Coroners Court later.

'Very sad'

Martina Longworth, a partner at the firm, said: "It must have been quite a terrible way to die for the poor man and it must be very distressing for his family.

"We would be most concerned for them. It's very sad."

Damage to the building was first noticed six weeks ago when builders believed there had been an attempted break-in.

The builders called in by the firm found a hole in the roof.

Staff claimed the buildings on the street have been targeted by lead thieves in the past.

Police said Mr Gough had no fixed address and they are not treating his death as suspicious.

Teenagers detained for six years for killing 85-year-old Paula Castle in mugging
Image

Two boys who killed a partially sighted pensioner while mugging her for her handbag were ordered to be detained for six years today.

The judge lifted an anonymity order on Jiervon Bartlett and Nayed Hoque, both 15, because of the seriousness of the case.

They pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Paula Castle, 85, who died of head injuries the day after being pushed to the ground near her home in Greenford, west London, in November, last year.

The pair had followed her down an alleyway as they covered their heads with their hoodies.

They took her bag and left her bleeding and crying out in pain on the ground.

The pair ran back to the nearby care home where they were in secure accommodation after committing a series of violent offences.

The Old Bailey heard they used Mrs Castle's bank card to top up a mobile phone and order a takeaway meal.

The following day, despite knowing the frail pensioner had been seriously injured, they robbed 75-year-old Rose Mohamed of her bag and money.

Bartlett, of Northolt, west London, and Hoque, of Mile End, east London, were told they would have extended licence periods of four years after serving half their sentences.

Mr Justice Fulford told the youths they had chosen the women because they were vulnerable.

Widow Mrs Castle was a "remarkable and courageous" woman who managed to live an independent life despite a number of difficulties.

He added: "She showed real bravery in dealing with life which is in stark contrast to the cowardly behaviour you have exhibited time and time again.

"These were cruel offences. I am sure you are both dangerous and pose a very high risk to the public of serious harm."

Mrs Mohamed was robbed of her bag with £120 which was later used for mobile top-ups and by Bartlett to buy trainers.

She was now unable to go out at night and her confidence had been shattered.

The court was told both boys had been involved in previous robberies.

Bartlett in January, last year, had grabbed a woman's hair, pushed her against a wall and run off with her mobile phone.

The previous year, he and others had robbed and assaulted two boys after threatening to stab them.

Hoque had beaten up his parents on two occasions and committed two robberies - the last one was four days before he attacked Mrs Castle.

Detective Chief Inspector Russell Taylor, from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: "These teenage boys attacked two elderly, vulnerable women for financial gain before spending the proceeds from their crime on trainers and takeaway food.

"Paula Castles's subsequent death has had a devastating impact on her family and loved ones and I would like to pay tribute to the family for their courage during this deeply distressing time."
