perspective here we are getting the same problem there are a lot of PH firms out there who have SLASHED their airport prices to ridiculous levels we are losing customers left right and centre and we are doing a lot cheaper than grandad from Stamford round trip 218 miles we do £110 but are coming up against peterborough PH willing to do it for £90 !!!!!!!!!!!! so probably the same in grandads case probably a Leicester or Nottingham PH firm doing the same

Why don't you pay the punters £110 for the privilege of taking them to Heathrow instead?

I think its more than 115 miles ROUND TRIP to LHR from Walsall the actual distance from Stamford is 108 miles i.e 216 miles there and back !!!!!

It still makes me wonder why the drivers and the firms that take this work on for stupid money bother to do it. I might as well sit indoors earning nothing than drive 200 miles to LHR, a 5 hour trip, and LOSE money?

Most cars cost between 40p and 50p a mile to run not including the driver's time, so again, why work for nothing, just for the cash turnover? OK, you cover the cost of the car and the fuel, but why drive the thing for free? Raving mad pal!

I think it is just the loaded mile price.

I work on the basis that the fuel must be no more than 35% of the toatal cost BUT there are plenty round here doing them for a lot less at that price there is some margin and my drivers want the long distance work so we compete for it if they turn round and say they don't want it we'll put our prices up BUT we'll lose it all

Why worry about losing work that's either not making you any money or costing you money to do?

We have drivers on our circuit doing Heathrow and Gatwick jobs cheaper than we did over 10 years ago.

Often it's the newer drivers who haven't quite grasped that money has to be put aside to fund future vehicles.

Must be country wide then because we've got the same up here, one driver does Heathrow for £110 one way, the man is a total idiot and moans at the end of the week that he's took nothing, when I tell him to put his prices up he says, "what and lose a customer"?

You can't educate retards.

I hear the same round here. Talking to the local hack a while ago he was moaning about the amount of tax he had to pay. I asked him how many miles a year he drove, his mpg and his hp. A few days later I told him how much he took a year within £2k. He was puzzled how I worked it out.

I told him if he worked less, he'd earn a bit less, but that would take him below the tax allowance, so he'd be actually better off. why work to make a loss and pay the taxman? Raving mad pal!
