Read the small print...or better still have the guy that comes out to fix tell you when he sees its a taxi. & Just noticed AA, my comments belong to RAC cover

Correct, you only need one who goes by the book and your goosed. Stranded 100 miles away from home and needing a tow.

The AA cover taxis, and always have done.

To true, I had AA cover on two of my Octavias but then skoda assistance changed to RAC, but I still prefer the AA, only used the cover a few times, mainly for dead batteries cause forgetting to turn the meter or datahead off and leaving it all on over night, the only big time was when I drove over a pedestrian island in 2006, ripped the sump right off the Octavia

You should have stayed longer on the phone.

Got me, Mrs Sussex, and the two mini Sussex's with the AA for around that.

Was about to bump this thread to ask what the current position was. Haven't had breakdown cover for years, and was considering taking out cover after a recent incident :?

And looked at the AA's website, and it seemed like they don't do hire and reward vehicles under standard breakdown cover, but of course they do provide cover for vehicles used for commercial purposes. But no doubt the premiums are a lot higher :-o

...funnily enough, there's an article today on Taxi Point, and the title is self-explanatory:

The AA clarifies its road side taxi coverage policy to LTDA rep driver after concerns and confusion

https://www.taxi-point.co.uk/post/the-a ... -confusion

Don't think we're allowed to reproduce full TaxiPoint articles on here, but this is the quote therein from the AA. I mean, talk about a lack of clarity - what does 'can't guarantee' mean? Either they cover hire and reward vehicles or they don't. Surely they wouldn't be trying to trick taxi drivers into taking out cover, and then refusing service? [-X

AA wrote:
AA Membership is designed for private/domestic/ non-business use. We have always reserved the right to refuse service for vehicles that are identified as being used for commercial reasons, including taxis, and our Terms and Conditions have been updated to clarify this.

“As your vehicle is for commercial use, we cannot guarantee that service will be provided under AA Membership and so you may wish to consider cover more suitable for you needs. More info available here https://www.theaa.com/ business/breakdown.

But, as the TaxiPoint article says, there are lots of providers of breakdown services providing cover to commercial vehicles, so like everything else these days it's probably quite complex and a bit of a minefield trying to work out the best and most cost effective cover.

By the way, the reason I often split posts up like this is in case anyone feels the need to quote, and either can't or won't use the quote function proportionately

Hint - quoting isn't compulsory. For example, I don't think a reply in general terms about breakdown cover requires a quote at all :D

(And no jokes about the pun on the word 'quote' please

Quoting about quotes for breakdown cover, etc :-o )

if you use a 4.2mtr Sprinter or Iveco Daily bus, watch the length of vehicle recovery covered, they need a HGV recovery

Think it's ok, it's just when I post any stuff from them I just put up the link because I can't be arsed to paste the lot.

Never been a fan of the way the AA mess around with renewals. They send you a price and then half it when you ring up and cancel.

Use to drive me mad, now my breakdown cover comes with my bank account.

Im with the AA at around £140 for me and the Mrs, it's us that are covered not the vehicle itself, so whatvever car i'm in im covered and that includes travel home or to a garage of our choice or any forward destination....as for customers I guess id have to bite the bullet and pay their onward travel but I'm certain that somewhere in the rules it states that I can't be held responsible by the punter in the case of mechanical breakdowns
