Oh dear, don't get me going about railway taxi ranks and permits, the words alone just start to make me queasy as a none permit holder

I thought the Council had the power to be in an Act, to take over any private taxi rank
The Councils don't care and the Railways don't care [it seems] about long queues at those ranks

It’s just another carve up the Council the Railways and the Airports depend on the ignorance of the commuter and the taxi diver to perpetuate this madness.

The taxi driver pay’s to provide a service and the commuter waits to be sold on for a profit. The Councillors get their little kickbacks to keep everyone sweet and the Railways and the Airports get the Lions share of the profits. Great job if you can get the work and the laugh is you don’t even have to do the work yourself.

Meanwhile the dim-witted taxi driver thinks he has won a watch because he buys a permit to supply a service. (And here’s me thinking that we should be charging for our services.)

RealCabforc and Co are little more than robots, they have been assimilated by the Business Borg and the ability to think for oneself totally eludes them. They defend a system that does nothing but turn them into mindless slaves. (George Orwell had it right)

On the other hand there are those of us in the thinking minority that do have the capacity to order our own thoughts.

Resistance is Not Futile!

I bet you wonder why it is that the Council go out of their way to try and stop me.

Did you know how Railway taxi ranks permit fees originated ???

In the old days of horse and carriage [hackney carriage] the railways made the Hack owners pay a nominal sum for cleaning up of the horse muck

The Railway permit fee originated the minute they realised that they could put a price on a customers head and sell him to a dim-witted taxi driver who was prepared pay for providing a service.

Had the trade turned around and levied a charge for picking up we would not be having this discussion right now.

It comes down to where your personal self-worth is placed, in your own pocket or in the pockets of the Business Borg.

Surely not yet another case of "do as I say, not as I do"? :?

I am sure you will find it has more to do with your inability to understand the market you work in, you quite simply are an individual who expects eveything handed to him for nothing. And whilst you and the rest of your wee buddies on here talk a lot, can you name one useful acheivement you have made for the betterment of the trade you work in? Have YOU done anything other than call anyone who disagrees with your views "corrupt" or worse, has it helped? Do you realise that even hiding behind this name you and him use, YOU and your fellow trouble makers are the laughing stock of the Edinburgh cab trade? You compound your status with pointless qoutes from books I doubt you've seen let alone read. Just one thing, Just one!!! , that you can show us that you have anything else to offer other than your selfish, pitiful, greedy, needs, that you could show would have a positive impact on our job. It's interesting that you have had to come to this site to find similar thinking idiots, who obviously, like you can!t cope in a democratic competitive world.

It showed just slightly more imagination than copying the banner at the top of the page :-o

Idiot, moi?

If you think restricted taxi numbers represents a democratic and competitive world, then perhaps it's you that's that knows little about the real world outside your cosy cab cartel?

Eh?

Since it was me who designed the banner, does copying it as my avatar really demonstrate a lack of imagination? #-o

And while this site is hardly a work of art, since I designed it and wrote most of the stuff accessible from www.taxi-driver.co.uk , surely this demonstrates just a teensy weensy bit of imagination.

The URL accessible from your signature hardly shows much imagination, a website template and some bollocks slagging off other people instead of actually addressing the issues.

At least you do make a reasonable attempt to discuss them on here =D>

It would be enlightening to hear your definition of the "Market" in which you and Skull work in? Can you expand on your statement or is it just rhetoric on your part?

It sounds as though you are saying Mr. Skull shouldn't have the democratic right to apply for a license? Did you also say the same thing about the Dundee Cab Company and Mr Coyle from Glasgow? If you didn't I am sure there were many in Dundee who shared the same democratic principles as yourself.

Perhaps to you and some of your colleagues the unpalatable end of this thick wedge is that the courts have determined that a survey cannot be relied upon as evidence of unmet demand unless such information is current. Many owners in Edinburgh must be very aware of the fine line that separates them from Dundee. Edinburgh council chose not to process these applications because it would have meant them having to refuse the applicants without being in possession of a good reason for doing so. We all know that to be the case.

What the applicants do now is entirely up to them and their legal team but if there are as many aggrieved applicants as has been alluded to then Edinburgh council might be in for a very hard time over these coming months.

TDO welcomes all kinds it doesn't discriminate just because people have different views. Take you for instance, because it just happens to suit you at this moment in time you prefer Edinburgh council to maintain a policy of restricting licenses, that’s ok because you no doubt have a good reason for that? Mr Skull has a good reason why he should be able to obtain a license for free, his reasons are backed up by the Office of Fair Trading and current legislation. Mr skull or any other applicant doesn't have to prove anything under current legislation it is his common right to ask for a license. The legislation is firmly on his side and it is licensing authorities that have to prove beyond doubt that there is no unmet demand. So while you are pontificating about a "democratic competitive world" you might wish to reflect on what those words actually mean.

If I were you, I would be very wary of using the words "democratic and competitive" in the same sentence because you have ably demonstrated that those two words are not to you're liking.

Regards

JD

Restricted cab numbers work just fine, the problem here, and backed up by local phc, is unrestricted phc numbers, also backed up by their need to operate in an illegal manner. I am perfectly happy with competition but to suggest that flooding our area with black cabs is the answer is just plain idiotic.

Err, a closed market is surely the antithesis of competition?

Who said anything about flooding the market with cabs - most new plates would be existing drivers, so that means no increase of cabs on the ranks.

On the other hand, it was Mr Greenhalgh who wanted to headhunt 300 new drivers, wasn't it?

Perhaps you're Mr Greenhalgh, since he demonstrated to the whole nation that he didn't know much about business and competition - I mean, if you don't know the difference between turnover and profits, then you probably don't know the difference between a cartel and competition.

There is nothing difficult about it, simple supply and demand

Mr Skull had the right to join a list of parties interested in applying for a licence, but he wouldnt have because he had one at that time

nonsense, the simple fact is that no more cabs are required at the moment..FACT,

What the applicants do now is entirely up to them and their legal team but if there are as many aggrieved applicants as has been alluded to then Edinburgh council might be in for a very hard time over these coming months.

You know!!, these applicants are wasting their time, and whatever they might think they can do, well, just let them waste more of their time and money, I refer to the FACT above.

Oh but they are, and you can add fair to that too, what we hate, despise, is simple greed and a need to feed it at others expense.

Further too this, please don't refer to skull like he is some hard done by taxi driver, he was simply trying to stuff his workmates at their expense, a fact not wasted on most of the trade here at the moment.
There is nothing you can say to convince any sensible cab driver here that we need more cabs on the street(and despite your ramblings thats exactly what would happen), but, phc restriction might be a step in the right direction and might even be of some benefit to them.
