There is nothing on that basis stopping you splashing your own money out and claiming it back! Having said that what is the actual purpose of insurance? In my mind it is not for us to actually go out of our way to save the ins company money, when they cannot be bothered themselves.

I have known of accidents (non fatal/non serious injury) whereby they paid out to the passengers (whip lash  ) + plus vehicle damage repair over 34K..........without proper investigation - make no mistake it is the Insurance companies making a lot of money over back door arrangements.

As they say "There is more than one way to skin a cat"......and oh boy are they doing it big time, and we are paying for it.

I can only think of one way myself.

Where accidents are concerned I wouldn't imagine you'd lose the contract.

You can get a replacement car within 24 hours plated and ready for work. The Skoda we've got on hire was delivered Tuesday morning, tested Tuesday afternoon and ready for work by 4pm.

Apparently there are new rules coming into force shortly that state that if a garage ( or accident claims company) can't repair your vehicle within 21days they have to send evidence that the delay is not their fault ( parts have been ordered, waiting for delivery etc.) if they don't, the insurance company can refuse to pay any hire charges after the 21 day period.

Well after all this time it has finally been sorted, but not in the way that was expected. The insurance company have now written the vehicle off and taken the replacement vehicle back leaving the driver without a vehicle. I don't know yet how much he got for the settlement but he hasn't yet found a suitable replacement.

The driver has only been licensed for less than a year. it was his uncle's vehicle.
