I thought thats what you said old chap

we have a 5 year medical, the DBS is once for life and if i change to a hack plate i save £65 a year Ops licence

a 3 year badge could be down to £150 with no DBS

If you read the clause in the deregulation bill, a license of a shorter period of time will still be available in some circumstances.

from January if the reforms go through - although I don't think you should be currently paying for an annual DBS

many LA's will simply and illegally multiply the license fee by 3

If my LA outprices itself regarding plate/badge fees and a hack base can rent to a out of town hack, whose to blame?

(clue.....my LA)

Your LA will set fees (or should set fees) according to local conditions - it is unfair to look at fees across the country - then say mine are more expensive than theirs so im going to license myself there. Perhaps you should do the same in respect of council tax?

The majority of drivers who license themselves remotely do so to avoid conditions - maybe there's no age policy, maybe they cant pass a knowledge test - maybe they cant speak English?

but its the very variations in regs and costs that directly CAUSE remote licencing surely? my other post on uniformity would eliminate the situation in a flash

we are all out of area at some point, dropping off/picking up, so long as a vehicle is legal i cannot see the difference and think its what the LA's deserve
