It rather depends on his ACTUAL speed, his speedo would read over, if it was showing 40mph he may only have been doing 35mph, he may even get away with a freebie

They don't do it like that anymore, there's no reduction. I got done 3 years ago for doing 32 in a 30 at 4am in the morning in Nottingham.

just hope the camera was out of film, if it's on a busy road there's a chance it might have used up all it's film.

I believe ACPO guidelines for the SAC are 37-42 mph. More info on pepipoo.com

A lot of them are digital now so there is no film, and they download the pictures remotely. They have been changing them over here lately! i presume liverpool have too.

I think it depends on your county. in Leics you do not get a ticket until your speed is 10% above the limit plus 4 miles per hour. So you don't get a ticket until you are doing 37 in a 30 zone. That information was on a NIP issued to a friend of mine a couple of weeks ago.

All the old style cameras flash even without there being a camera in the box, go and have a look through the top hole to see if there is a lens showing, don't forget they still cannot do anything with the old style camera that faces you.
If you don't receive a NIP through the post after 14 days your scot free
