There is no point in explaining to a failed cabby :)

I learnt my lesson not long after starting driving. Customer left phone in car, after being told by the office I drove the 4 miles to return it. Customer opens door, grabs phone and shuts door - no thanks or anything ! Our byelaws say we can charge £5 or the fare from the main police station, whichever is greater, to return items left in the vehicle, naievely I did'nt bother because I thought it would be good customer service. #-o

Now once I'm more than a mile from the address they can collect from our office.

I've had similar. Someone leaves wallet in car. Last job of the night so about to log off and office comes through radio and asks me to check seats for aforementioned wallet and that customer will pay fare for me to take it back. Get there , customer grabs wallet from my hand, and not only refuses to pay fare, then accuses me of stealing cash out of it! Not only did I not get paid, I got a mouthful of abuse too. Nowadays I may drop lost properly at the office if I'm passing but won't go out of my way to do so! Definitely will never be dropping things off at houses/pubs.
