It is the time of year when our fleet insurance is due for renewal. i received our fleet claims experience yesterday. Today I ring Tradex because I have seen them mentioned on here a few times. They are unable to give me a quote because my current insurer has already asked them for a quote so they can't quote directly. So it seems that I will never be able to get a quote directly because I need my claims experience before they can quote and the broker won't send it out until they have asked people like Tradex. Marvelous!

Have you tried Cowens in Mansfield? They do quite a few Taxis and fleets.

Inbro House, Commercial Gate, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire NG18 1EU

I will ring them on Monday.

We are doing well for quotes. Not one broker has so far come back with a quote. Not even last years broker. We have not had a fault accident in over 4 years so you would think they would be falling over themselves to get our business but it seems not. Feeling rather frustrated.

That's normal isn't it ?
I'll contact over a dozen brokers and usually only one or two get back to me.

It is not normal as far as our previous experience has been. Usually our holding broker will give us a renewal quote and then every one, including the holding broker will keep offering other prices but to be just a week away from committing and still not having any quotes is ridiculous. I have been exchanging emails with one broker this afternoon where he has been telling me that I should be chasing our holding broker and how bad they are at not yet offering a quote. I pointed out that he hadn't yet offered a quote and guess what, the emails have stopped and still no quote.

maybe that's a reason:
"Insurance Premium Tax Rise

Millions of households and motorists face a rise in the cost of new insurance policies later this year due to an increase in the tax insurers are charged.

Chancellor George Osborne announced a rise in Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) from 6% to 9.5% from November.

The tax hike applies to pet, car, mobile, contents, buildings and private medical insurance.

The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) says the move will result in hikes for 20.1 million households with contents insurance, 19.6 million with motor insurance and 17 million with buildings insurance.

Not all types of insurance will be included. Travel insurance policies, for example, will be excluded from the hike because they are charged at a higher rate of 20%, which isn't changing.

There may also be an increase to any administration fees charged, such as for changing a name or address on a policy as the tax is levied at this stage too.

IPT was first introduced in October 1994 and while it is a tax on insurers, they add it to the cost of policies. It last rose in January 2011 when it increased from 5% to the current 6%."

The policy is due next week. The tax hike wont affect it. Also the tax hike would not benefit the broker.

I have just moved from individual car policies to a fleet policy for my 3 vehicles despite having a poor accident history (Mostly bad luck non faults with no money paid out) we found tradex were the most expensive but we got offered by 3 different brokers a policy with tfp schemes (aviva backed) Swinton got us the cheapest quote but i was surprised at getting any quote. The woman who is fleet manager at Swinton is a lady named LyndyStonehouse try phoning Swinton and asking for her

The 16 seater was probably cheaper, which broker did you use,and which insurance company have they put you with?

The bus was quite a bit dearer than the cars last year and also attracted an additional excess of £1,000. The broker is Robert Nott and the insurer is Enterprise.
